FRANCE 0, Luxembourg 0 was the shock result of the night – possibly the season – and must have cost punters plenty.
Not many would have backed them to win though but the'd have been popular on the handicaps and team goal bets as well as scores and other markets.
Not in a million years did I see that result coming from a side worth hundreds of millions of pounds but it just shows how hard an organised side playing total defensive football can be to break down.
France beat my Top Treble while I took a chance on Cristiano Ronaldo scoring first for Portugal in Hungary but it was team-mate Andre Silva who grabbed the glory.
So we move on to the latest instalment of World Cup qualifiers including Scotland v Malta, Slovakia v England and Northern Ireland v Czech Republic.
I've posted and starting off with a Super Single that's a double – Scotland to win to nil and England to beat the Slovaks.
Poland beat me all ends up last week when they crashed 4-0 at Denmark but should return to winning ways by beating Kazakhstan at home. Montenegro and the Danes are breathing down their necks so they can't afford another slip-up against the Kazakhs after drawing 2-2 away from home.
That's only one of two points picked up by the minnows and while a Poland win is short I'm on over 2.5 match goals with a chance of the visitors contributing.
Denmark will go to Armenia full of confidence after that stunning win and should complete their double header with six points.
Complete the treble with Germany at home to Norway. The Germans have won seven out of seven, scoring 29 goals and won 3-0 in Oslo. Norway can be a stuffy side and have conceded just 10 goals but I'm on the Germans -1.

I’ve managed to avoid the banana skins and eeked out a tidy new balance boosted yesterday by Belgium and Rosario Central both winning. Only 1.2/1 + stake but I’m up to £117.70.
I picked my bet earlier today without seeing anyone’s tips. I jusmped on England -1 h/c @ 11/10 with betfair. It is very rare we lose at home in qualifiers and we’re more than capable of grabbing a 2 or 3 nil. Yes, the win to nil has some appeal, but with Malta parking the bus, we had to find another way of winning. With 60 mins on the board we got our 1st. The last 2 goals coming in injurytime, so we know we can go for the throat right up until the final whistle.
With a bit of luck, I might be sitting on around £237 come 9.30pm. Also, Slovakia are a bit better than Malta and must know they’ve got to open up their style of play to get something from us. Malta didn’t do that, they parked the bus. This should give England a bit more space to break them down, and not have to worry about 2 banks of 4 to burst through. We’ve also become a 2nd half side. So More goals in the 2nd half than the first?? If you have eyes on the game and can hold your nerve, if its still stalemate by ht, it could/should be a license to print money what with the price boost in-play on the England win.

I hate watching England, Southgate has them playing boring and negative football , with a starting 11 made up predominantly of over paid premadonna’s who have no interest in playing for their country. No passion. No pride.
I turned off the Malta game, it was boring AF and the 4-0 final score is no reflection on what was a dire performance.
Slovakia are no push overs and have 1 world class player in Marek Hamsik who could cause Joe Hart some problems (why Jack Butland doesn’t get a chance I’ll never understand..). I believe coach Jan Kozak will set up his team very defensively tonight, getting at least 1 point from this game will be plan. With 2 winnable games remaining against Scotland and Malta.
I honestly think this could be a frustrating evening for England, and from what I saw against Malta on the weekend.. why should I have any confidence in them? I don’t care about their record at Wembley… my tip is Slovakia to get at least a point (they could even nick the win).. Half the England squad will be more concerned with their premier league fixtures on the weekend.

The problem with the likes of Malta/Andorra/San Marino/Luxemburg are that these teams are virtually guaranteed to finish plum last in any qualifiers. They only have one option – play for a point by parking the bus. So any side going up against them had better be prepared to lay siege to them for 90 mins. Luxemburg probably just had the match of their entire history with a draw against an all firing French side. France must be thinking it is their worst performance ever. It only takes 1 of these mismatched sides to end all square per group of fixtures and it will sink your bet – because people drop them into acca’s – usually with ridiculous handicaps like -3, 4 or 5 for overcome for a decent price.
I think England were lucky to get 4 goals against Malta ( 2 in injury time ) – but, I watched the highlights of the 2nd half and Glenn Hoddle summed up the match quite accurately. England needed 3 points. They didn’t care if it came with a 1 nil or a big score, grab the points, go home, forget about the match. Nobody will ever remember Malta 0 England 4 ( not even in 12 months time ). Its the points that matter. We found a way to win, and we won. We don’t have to worry about them any longer – the match is done. 4 or 5 players we had on that pitch wouldn’t make the starting 11 in most internationals, I guess that’s why the manager had a look at them. But we got the points on the board, we won ugly and now we have a not so nailed on win potentially against a mediocre European side.
I would much rather bet on England to beat an average side on home turf with maybe a 1 goal handicap ( straight or Asian ) than to go against a stubborn ” park the bus ” team with a ridiculous handicap to overcome. Matches like the Slovakia match will be a bit more open, more free flowing. Slovakia have a couple of established top flight players that will try to exert their presence on the game, that will lift their side and make them think they have a chance. This should open Slovakia up and space will be created around them. If we choose to put out a side marginally better than the last starting 11. We have more chance of grabbing a solid win. Remember too that this match if we get 3 points will leave us 5 points clear of 2nd place with 2 matches left. A home game against Slovenia and an away trip to Lithuania. 4 more points from these last 3 matches and all but mathematically, we’re en-route to the WC.
On a final note, Scotlandshire fans supporting England ???? Maybe trying to get behind all home nations in the main competitions would be too much to ask. The bulk of English fans support home nations, so why can’t the home nations always get behind the rest?? I mean, its not as if Scotland are gonna get in the world cup finals, you’d need a DeLorean @ 88.8mph with a flux capacitor set to 1982 to achieve that.
