THEY say it all happens over the last nine holes at Augusta and boy were they right.
Superb iron shots, missed putts, lead going one way then the other and above all two friends egging on each other made the final round of the Masters brilliant viewing and a great advert for the game.
Although he beat my 28-1 selection Justin Rose I was happy for Sergio Garcia who played stunning golf from the 13th onward.
Anytime Rose hit a great iron shot, Garcia topped it. It was a wonderful win for the Spaniard on what would have been Seve’s 60th birthday. The great man was probably smiling down on him on Sunday.
And so we move on. The RBC Heritage Harbor Town Golf Links, South Carolina, is recognised as one of America’s top courses and is a favourite among many PGA Tour professionals.
Last year was the 230th year since the South Carolina Golf Club was formed by Scottish Merchants. Finesse, imagination and shot making are needed to get round this beauty.
Kevin Kisner has had a bit of an up and down season but his ups have been good. With three top 10s at the Sony Open, AT&T and the Arnold Palmer it shows he can do it on the bigger stage and making the cut last week at Augusta was no mean feat. He has good form at Harbor Town, losing in a play-off in 2015. He has three top 10s and three top 25s this year. He has a 62.79% in scrambling and GIR of 67.4%.
With only one top 10 from six outings on the PGA Tour it’s not been the greatest of seasons sfor Martin Kaymer. So it was no surprise when in the first round of the Masters last week he hit five bogeys in a row.
Then on the final day he did it the other way round with five birdies in a row. He also had a flawless second round with four birdies. I am hoping this could be the resurgence of the German as he has been missed the last couple of seasons.
Looking at his stats there is nothing that really makes you think he is worth a bet but his resurgence has got to start somewhere and this could be the place.
