JOHNB has three selections for Sunday and is advising singles, doubles and a treble so let’s hope he has a good day.

October is now a 13.93pt loss but it could be wiped out today.

Johnb’s Sunday Tips

Goodwood 2.30
Andar 5-1 NAP William Hill, Coral, Ladbrokes

Inn The Bull 10-3 William Hill

Chepstow 3.20
Cool Sky 10-3 NB William Hill, Bet365

Also 3×0.5pt doubles & 1×0.5pt treble at quoted William Hill odds.

Give us your thoughts for the day and there are always great tips and strong opinions. There are big races at Goodwood and Chepstow so put your thinking hats one and pick a winner.

    Morning all

I put up last night i will be following Paul Townsend at chepstow today.
Other than that its a few on home soil for me.
The 1.35 curragh is interesting. Black Sea is fav and made a good impression when staying on for 4th and Agent of Chaos also ran really well but theres plenty of whispers for Bolgers Moonlight Magic and is being back accordingly. Not a race for me to get involved in though.

    2.25 FORT DEL ORO 9/2
Has to overturn an earlier defeat by Toscanini but Eddie Lynam has won this race the last 2 years and with 3 entered is surely targeting another win.

Just cant see past this one today.

    3.45 Limerick The munster national
Taking SHANPALLAS to repeat last years success

    Best of luck to all

Hi Johnb was wondering why you rarely do a write up about your selections its always interesting to hear your input as you are very wise about horse racing and i like to learn

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 1 year ago

Neil, we probably don’t pay him enough.
To be fair to Johnb he probably spends his time looking out his tips.
There has to be balance between writing and tipping – and it’s the tips that are more important.
Reasoning is important but Johnb often adds his to the comments section.

  17. Dariusz 1 year ago

    Timeform comments:

Andar (4 out of 5 stars): Lightly-raced colt. 8/1, creditable fourth of 9 in nursery at Chelmsford City (6f) 17 days ago. Yard having good spell. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Merits consideration.
    Form: 9224
Race commentary: 6f. YOSEMITE has shown plenty when runner-up on both her starts (well backed each time) and can make it third-time lucky. Canford Lilli and Andar are other likely players.

Inn The Bull (5 out of 5 stars): Much improved for debut when landing a 9-runner C&D maiden last month (only needing to be kept up to work). Highly likely he will have more to offer now tackling nurseries.
    Form: 51
Race commentary: 7f. INN THE BULL impressed when making his second start a winning one over C&D last month, and with further improvement a distinct possibility, he earns the vote to follow up. Goodwood Zodiac has really found his stride of late, and is feared most, ahead of In The Red.

Cool Sky (5 out of 5 stars): Scored over hurdles for Donald McCain, but form has took off for this yard, winning at Worcester/Plumpton last year. In good heart on the level of late too, so has to be of interest.
    Form: 38/3110-
Race commentary: 2m 11y. COOL SKY showed improved form over hurdles last year for Ian Williams, and returns on a favourable mark given the level he has achieved on the Flat of late. Makethedifference is chasing a hat-trick so has to be feared, as does Abidjan if he’s allowed to take his chance following an easy win at Exeter on Thursday.

Godolphin have just released a statement explaining that emotionless was found to be lame and further tests revealed a chip in the knee , horse requires surgery but will make a full recovery in time for next season , we are pleased that we now know the reasoning behind his extremely poor run

  39. Johnb 1 year ago

Last season everyone was hyping up Estidhkaar as the 2000 Guineas winner, I warned people by telling them he wouldn’t win or even get placed as he wouldn’t get a mile, even though he was so good at 7f there was a major doubt in my opinion about the mile.
I also mentioned that Gleneagles and John F Kennedy were the two horses to look out for in the 2000 Guineas
Gleneagles won and was 25/1 when I mentioned him.

My main strength when studying horses is being able to judge a horses preferred distance,
while everyone was debating whether Golden Horn would get 1m 4f in the Derby I was trying to persuade everyone that he would.
I am never going to get it right all the time but most of the time yes I will

Log Out Island will get 1 mile but connections are running him over 5f & 6f which I can’t understand

Air Force Blue WILL NOT win the 2000 Guineas “that’s just my opinion”
he gives me the same impression that Estidhkaar did last year & my opinion is that he won’t get 1 mile against the top horses

I have some horses in mind for next years classics but just a bit more research needed and I like to see how they get through the winter and a couple haven’t even run yet like PROCONSUL the racing world waits for this one
We also have San Francisco & The Major General to look out for

    Finally Emotionless yesterday,
I don’t like speculating before I have the facts which is why I didn’t post yesterday but it was easy to see the horse had a problem,
Even the jockey said he knew there was a problem after 1 furlong, which is why I can’t understand why he wouldn’t pull him up
We now know the injury sustained was bad enough to explain that run, a run that can be forgiven and should be forgiven

I never chase loses and never will

Optical High is my Nap because he is a horse that has desperately been needing further than he has been running, trainer is in decent form & it’s no coincidence that Optical High steps up in distance when he is on a low handicap mark & with a claimer on board
I would like to see the jockey try to make all and turn this race into a stamina test

  87. Dariusz 1 year ago

    Now that’s bold tipping :)

    Timeform comments:

Secret Sense (3 out of 5 stars): Once-raced filly. Caught the eye on pedigree and showed ability on debut at Kempton (7f) 21 days ago before finishing eighth of 14. Better to come but likely to need a stiffer test.
    Form: 8
Race commentary: 6f 212y. GALE SONG pulled clear of the remainder when a good second at Newmarket last month, and is taken to go one better this time. Rostova was fourth on debut in the same event, and looks the biggest danger, with Blue Moon Rising next best.

Girling (3 out of 5 stars): Foaled February 23. Rock of Gibraltar filly. Closely related to 9f winner Galaxy and half-sister to smart winner up to 1¼m Gibeon. Dam 1½m-1¾m winner. Trainer going well.
    Form: no history.
Race commentary: 6f 212y. KAKASHAN shaped with plenty of promise on debut at Haydock recently, really motoring home once the penny had dropped. This extra furlong will suit, and open to significant improvement, she is taken to get off the mark at the second attempt. Dutch Destiny also shaped well on debut, and is feared most, ahead of Nicarra, who looks a likely type on paper.

Optical High (2 out of 5 stars): Made the frame twice over hurdles in 2013, but well held all 3 starts since returning from a lengthy absence in July.
    Form: B43/665
Race commentary: 3m 3f 9y. TOKYO JAVILEX gained reward for a consistent spell when opening his account over hurdles at Fontwell 9 days ago, and remains with handicap scope based on his chase form. Apache Pilot returns from a break for an in-form yard, while Solway Trigger remains unexposed.

  88. PeteT 1 year ago

I believe John when he says that he never chases loses. He obviously has his reasoning (explained above) for choosing Optical High as his NAP at 25/1.

I guess my only concern is that in essence we have 2.5 points on the NAP (the single, two doubles and a treble) which is a lot of eggs in one basket. Great if it wins but, if it loses it puts a lot of pressure on the other two choices.

I guess fortune favours the brave! :)

  89. Johnb 1 year ago

Tom I was told years ago that in the long term I would make more money backing horses to win no matter what the odds rather than doing eachway and I found that to be true, I kept records for a year of the horses I would have done e/w and made a lot more by just doing a straight win
