PHIL TAYLOR will be powerless to prevent play-off failure if he doesn’t beat Gary Anderson in Thursday night’s Premier League darts in Newcastle.
Taylor will miss out on the play-offs for the first time if he can’t bag the points against Anderson in a repeat of the 2015 World Championships Final.
The Power is 11-8 at BetVictor for the win he needs while Anderson is 8-5 at Coral and the draw 18-5 at Boylesports.
Anderson, Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld and Adrian Lewis are vying for the two remaining spots at the finals with Michael van Gerwen and Dave Chisnall already through.
Lewis – who like Taylor must win to keep his hopes alive – has a tough task against van Gerwen and is 7-2 at Betfred for the win, with the Dutchman 8-13 at Paddy Power.
Completing the line-up is Barney versus James Wade and Chizzy against Stephen Bunting.
Roger Federer was a shock casualty at the Madrid Open tennis on Wednesday, crashing out to Nick Kyrgios, and Thursday sees another packed schedule.
Eye-catching men’s showdowns include Grigor Dimitrov’s tussle with Stan Wawrinka and the all-Spanish David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco battle.
Match of the day could well be Caroline Wozniacki (7-4, Ladbrokes) against defending women’s champ Maria Sharapova (8-15, Paddy Power).
Elsewhere on Thursday there’s the likes of golf, IPL cricket and Super League rugby so good luck with your bets and let’s hear your tips and thoughts.
