MARCH 12: ARSENAL v NEWCASTLE

Monday, the Etihad, 8pm, live on Sky Sports 1 AVB may be history but RVP is very much alive and kicking. The Arsenal hitman looks like he’s being courted by big-spending Man City after netting a remarkable 21 goals in 20 games. How Andre Villas-Boas must have wished he could have arranged a swap deal with misfiring Fernando Torres. Such is the Dutchman’s form that a lot was made of him missing a chance against AC Milan that could have put the Gunners level. That was tough on van Persie and he could make amends when Arsenal entertain Newcastle in the Premier League tonight. He is a biggest 3-1 at bet365 to score first and 4-6 at Coral to net at any time and similar to Lionel Messi at Barcelona it’s difficult to back against him.

Arsenal look back to their best after firing in 20 goals in five games and were unlucky not to turn the Euro tie around after racing into a 3-0 lead over the Italians but failing to grab a fourth.

If they maintain that kind of form they should see off Newcastle whose last visit to London ended in a disastrous 5-0 defeat at Spurs.

The Gunners are a biggest 1-2 with the likes of BetVictor while Newcastle are a biggest 13-2 at Skybet with the draw 4-1 at BetVictor

With Arsene Wenger’s side fully focused on finishing in the top four it could be a high scorer. Newcastle have hit the target in 10 of their last 11 but kept just two clean sheets in that spell.

Both teams to score pays 5-6 at Ladbrokes while over 2.5 goals is 8-13 with Coral.

If you want an alternative to van Persie, Newcastle fans will obviously back  Demba Ba at 8-1 (various) but I might take a chance on Thomas Rosicky.

The Czech midfielder has bounced back to form and netted in the comeback win against Spurs. He is 16-1 at bet365 to score first and 5-1 with Skybet to net at any time.

Recommendations

  • Van Persie to score first (3-1, bet365)
  • Rosicky to score (5-1, Skybet)
  • Both teams to score (5-6, Ladbrokes)

I’ve went £80 on Oxlade-Chamberlain first goal at 10/1 and £40 last goal. He is only 5/1 with Coral, 6/1 Hills and 7/1 Ladbrokes so 10/1 for a winger is a good price.

Chris, it’s a good price but it’s difficult to choose anyone but van Persie.

George, not enough games and hardly any from top leagues for me to take a serious look at both teams to score. Games I’ve seen tipped up include Trabzonspor v Sivasspor (6pm), Midtjylland v Horsens (6pm) and Cambuur v AGOVV (8-11). Both teams should score at Arsenal going by the stats. The Gunners have kept two clean sheets in 11 while Newcastle have scored in 10 of their last 11.

George, seven out of eight of the teams I gave you have scored, including of course Arsenal and Newcastle. Just need AGOVV to net for the fourfold. Hoped you backed it coz I didn’t but has btts at Arsenal for a single.
