JOHNB’S faith in Quickaswecan paid off as the 5-1 joint nap and NB bolted to a dominant victory on Wednesday.

His other tip couldn’t complete the double but it was still 8pts profit for the day and our man is now 12.98pts up for July. It was a great day all round for the thread with plenty of winners so well done all who contributed.

John Gosden is twice a King George winner with the three-year-olds Taghrooda and Nathaniel

John Gosden, trainer of the unbeaten three-year-old Golden Horn, believes that the brilliant Derby winner’s clash with older horses in Ascot’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes is “the whole essence” of what the high-summer championship race is all about.

The colt is seeking to build on his successes in the Dante Stakes and Eclipse Stakes as well as at Epsom. But as he attempts to make it six wins from six career starts, Gosden warns he faces “probably his biggest test so far”.

Frankie Dettori will once again take the mount on the son of the stallion Cape Cross, owned by his breeder Anthony Oppenheimer.

Gosden, who is likely to also run Eagle Top and Romsdal, said: “Golden Horn’s been fine since the Eclipse and even progressed physically – he’s filled out.

“We always thought that he was a good, proper horse, but he just seems that much more streetwise – harder and tougher now.”

Frankie Dettori will ride Golden Horn again after wining the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown earlier this month
However, he added: “These are proper older horses taking him on, four really smart ones. Don’t rule the rest out, don’t rule the Italian horse Dylan Mouth out.”

Golden Horn will be the only member of the Classic-aged generation in a field of up to 10 runners. The field also includes the first three home in Royal Ascot’s Hardwicke Stakes – Snow Sky, Eagle Top and Postponed – who are all four-year-olds.

Also due in the line-up is the highly talented Flintshire, runner-up to Treve in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Last year’s runner-up Telescope misses the race following a setback.

Gosden is twice a King George winner with the three-year-olds Taghrooda in 2014 and Nathaniel (2011).

He said: “The clashing of the generations is the whole essence of what this race is all about. The race did go through a stage where it became one dimensional; it was only older horses and small fields.

Last year’s runner-up Telescope, ridden by Ryan Moore, misses out due to an injury set-back
“What grabs you is when the three-year-olds run too.”

While the trainer is being characteristically diplomatic about Golden Horn’s prospects of continuing the winning streak, others are being less so.

Luca Cumani, trainer of Postponed, described the race as “in theory, a foregone conclusion”.

He added: “To me, Golden Horn should win and the rest of us are fighting it out for second.”

  4. johnb 3 years ago

Just how much better can Golden Horn get?
I personally think there is a good 10 to 15 percent of improvement in him which is scary for his rivals.

He still has his doubters but he has won all his races this season with relative ease, Frankie says he has never fully asked the horse yet.
    I have heard it all

The 3yo’s are a poor bunch this year

He hasn’t raced against anything yet

This years three year olds are not bad, Golden Horn is just a freak and has already beaten older horses comfortably

Hope you all got a decent price as he is now 4/9 & 2/5

If I put on with your tennis bet it pays 1.08/1 Bet365 which is a lot more the type of bet I could stick on.
Only thing is I’ve never heard of either of these tennis players(they ring a bell but that’s it)

  91. NAGMAN 3 years ago

Davy did like ANEESAH each way in the 3.30 but annoyingly there now only 7 runners so not a tip really anymore.

Still think it has a fair chance but I would advise small stakes only if you do play as plenty of dangers in that race from a win only perspective.

  92. Jimron 3 years ago

My nap in the 3.30 into 16s due to a non runner not happy about the 7 runners now tho!

  93. NAGMAN 3 years ago

Also will have a very small punt on

3.40 HAMIS AL BIN 11/1 each way

Just think it’s a poor race and he has won here before off a higher mark, is fairly consistent at Wolv, has decent draw and should be up with the pace.

  94. dougiec 3 years ago

Recoba he should be as this tournament is played at the second highest altitude on the circuit
He has already won a tournament that is played at the highest altitude and has a good record playing at altitude, this is an important stat because players use more stamina
In football terms it’s like Chile playing at home

  108. the watcher 3 years ago

Golden horn has beaten older horses yes, but gets a huge age for weight pull.
We will never find out if he is great as he will be retired at 3 to maintain stud value.
He has won his races well, but I don’t get the wow factor that Frankel gave me when I saw him run.
And you can’t say the clock doesn’t lie as Frankel did his running in the end of races, a bit like a 1500 metre runner, burning off the opposition in the home straight..

Except golden horn, which of this years crop will be mentioned as a potential arc winner next year.????
Horn would have a chance but will be retired, I haven’t seen another candidate as yet.

  131. Bobman 3 years ago

Johnb would it be a good idea to double your nap/nb tonight with golden horn? Anyone any thoughts on that?

  132. allycoops 3 years ago

Sorry De Niro got your adventurous tip mixed up with one of Postmans Horses. Many Thanks

Double carpet and dougiec, nice one, had rfc and tanaza to win, just been told back smullen in 7.25, fc maybe with fav

  140. wtf 3 years ago

Just a general point on poo jockeys poo being shit by the way.

J Spencer and J O’Brien both very poor.

J Spencer has just rode a horse called Steventon Star in the 6.45 at Doncaster. This horse should have pissed this race but once again Spencer leaves it 10 lengths off the front and then tries to win it on the line to look like a great jockey.

A bit of advice mate just win the race, I will not back that guy if he is riding a 100/1 shot in a one horse race.

And as for J O’Brien no words for that eejit.

GL all and come on JBs nap

  141. double carpet 3 years ago

  145. Charlie chalk 3 years ago

I only back horses with Jamie spencer onboard on still tracks, holding up work well, I do agree tho it’s frustrating

Another for me is graham lee in sprint races, he never seems to position himself well, however on stayers he is awesome

  179. Kev 3 years ago

Skybet are a shambles. Just phoned up as placed my bet last night and got paid out 9/4. Told the guy on phone price went up to 5/2 and I thought they honoured bog. He said only if the sp is diff from the price you placed bet at. I’m sure that’s not how b365 and willy hill honour, still slight grumble on a great day. Thanks again john

  180. Alex 3 years ago

Nice one mate, only bet of the day and re backed for good measure before the race!

  181. TheHawk 3 years ago

Kev they correct only if sp gets bigger than the price u took :)

  182. Kev 3 years ago

I did not know that. Always thought it gave u best price it drifted to. I was sure b365 do this. Probably wrong though. Thanks for your help guys

  183. Tweegyboo 3 years ago

Nice one jb! Cheers dc got 28-1 ew on powderhorn too earlier

  184. dave 3 years ago

best odds guaranteed only applies when you took horse and price changed

if you bet at 9/4 and returned at 6/4 you get paid at 9/4

if you bet at 9/4 and sp is 3/1 you get paid at 3/1

the only things that matter are the price when you placed bet and Sp

any other price it has been is irrelevant

  185. Knight rider 3 years ago
