IT was a day of caution and a small profit as one of my 2pt doubles won and the other won didn't.
My first choice double came it 23-20 thanks to Celtic and over 2.5 goals in the Trabzonzpor game but the one I added much later needed an extra Liverpool and of course Mario Balotelli should have provided it right at the end.
I tipped Celtic -1 and while it was my Super Single in the Daily Record I didn't put it up on the site simply because the price dropped well below evens.
After team news I backed Kris Commons to score first at 9-2 and he could have scored four before the deadlock was broken by long-shot Emilio Izaguirre.
I also had a small wager on Steven Gerrard to score first at 13-2 only after reading comments here because earlier it had been suggested he wouldn't start and I also saw Nacir Chadli being tipped to score first in the Spurs game.
There are two more FA Cup ties tonight with Everton taking on West Ham and Scunthorpe facing a Chesterfield side who had to beat MK Dons away twice in the previous round. Scunthorpe will be much changed from the team that last played on Boxing Day with loan players Richard Brindley, Shaun Brisley, Bobby Olejnik and Luke Williams all back at their parent clubs.
Gillingham take on Bristol City in the JP Trophy and team news and while City are favourites I'd hold off backing them until seeing if strikers Kieran Agard and Aaron Wilbraham are passed fit.
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has named a full-strength squad but will be without striker Diafra Sakho and defender James Tomkins. Cheikhou Kouyate and Alex Song have both left for international duty. Midfielders Mark Noble and Kevin Nolan are both in contention to start at Goodison Park, along with forwards Ricardo Vaz Te and Matt Jarvis.
Everton midfielder James McCarthy hasn't fully recovered from a hamstring problem. Centre-back John Stones is likely to start, having missed the last two matches with an ankle injury, in place of the suspended Antolin Alcaraz.
Forward Kevin Mirallas is fit but keeper Tim Howard (calf), defender Tony Hibbert, midfielders Leon Osman (foot), Darron Gibson (knee) and Steven Pienaar (knee) are all unavailable while Christian Atsu is on African Nations Cup duty with Ghana.
Elsewhere the focus is on Serie with nine games including Udinese v Roma early and Juventus v Inter Milan late.
Among other fixtures there are two Copa del Rey ties with Celta Vigo facing Athletic Bilbao and Malaga at home to Levante.
My Top Treble of Fiorentina not to lose, AC Milan and Napoli was beaten by the first two who surprisingly lost.
My Super Single was also from Serie A and was also a loser as Genoa drew 2-2 with Atalanta so it wasn't a good on the Italian football.
I don't chase losses so won't be doing much on the later games – maybe a 2pt double – but will make some recommendations after seeing team news.

My first post on this site, but I’ve been following each day and reading comments. I love listening to other ideas and strategies to earn extra money!
I was having some bad luck over the festive period which inspired me to find a strategy to be profiting more often, keeping it simple as possible!
Starting at £10, I want to do a challenge to reach £100. When I achieve this, I cash out and start over with £10 again. However, predicting match results has been tough lately, so I’ve gone down this simple route of choosing up to 6 games max on over 1.5 goals and use your returns on the next round each time.
So far I’m doing well, let me know if you like the sound of it and I may publish here.
My favourite bank builder is to find no more than a double at a time and bet on the over 0.5 total match goals, but assume the home side favourite will bag the goal you need. If you can get 3 or 4 doubles a day – and take the odds 10-12 mins in-play, you can double your money after 6 or 8 selections land. Furthest I’ve got is 1200 quid from 10 quid.

I’ve been dipping into Northern Ireland for win and btts a lot recently, although this one is a bit more risky. The H2H has a great history of goals, and 20/23 of Glenavon’s recent games have seen BTTS with only a single 1-1 in that time. The risk is in Glenavon having only won 3 and lost 6 of their home games this season, but i expect them to be really up for this to try and build up a gap to hold onto that top 6 spot.
Napoli win and BTTS
Cesena have a good record for scoring in home games against Napoli. Only 3 H2H are recent, but Cesena have scored in the last 5 at home. It’s a game i’d expect Napoli to win but hopefully they concede while doing so.
Palermo win and BTTS
The last 5 H2H have seen both score, and Palermo’s last 6 games have seen both score. Cagliari have been a bit erratic with their scoring this season but they have scored in 5/8 away games. Palermo are pretty good at home and i fancy them to edge this.

Well yesterday was another winner in my £20-£200 challenge after Liverpool netted 2. My little extra tip for Gerrard at any time also came in if anyone decided to back that. Moving on I have the following bet in mind, and although it will bring me to just under £200 exactly, I don’t want to pick something else for the sake of a few £’s. So:
BET 6: OVER 2 GOALLINE, GILLINGHAM V BRISTOL CITY (Johnstone’s paint trophy, 7.30 KO)
£141 @1.37 = £193.87
I expect Bristol to take this match, although I think it would be safer to stick with over 2 goals this time, especially since Gillingham have managed to score in their last 7 home matches and so might manage the draw. Bristol have netted in 3/5 of their last away matches. All 5 of Gillingham’s and 3/5 of Bristol’s last matches have ended with at least 2 goals in and I am confident we will see the same again tonight. The teams last 2 meetings have finished 1-3, 2-1. I also think that BTTS @ 1.72, and if it was available, Smith anytime would be a good punt after he has already said he is keen to get further than he did with Oldham previously and is on form at the moment.

Aussie A league sees Western Sydney Wanderers take on Melbourne Victory.
5 of the last 6 have seen both teams score but WSW last beat Victory over 14 months ago. The way they have been playing you wouldn’t think that would change tonight.
WSW have only conceded 3 at home and Victory have only conceded 4 away from home.
Stats point to both teams scoring and historically 4 out of last 6 have seen over 2.5mg. The defensive records of both teams points to a low scoring affair.
Tomi Juric is on international duty and he is WSW top scorer with two this season. Of course Berisha and Thompson know the route to goal and have 13 goals between them.
The big question is will Wanderers luck change in front of goal.Seems unlikely.

My boys played them over there only last week in the league winning comfortably 3-1. We beat them in the FA cup there too 2-1 back in November.
I’m going for more of the same since we always seem to concede the odd goal this season but am sure of out scoring them. Only slight concern would be this is the 1st of two legs but at these odds I’m having a crack.

Im a massive everton fan and with you considering going big on them i thought id do a small write up for you.
Everton are in the worst form ive seen in 10 years, the problem is we are too 1 dimensional at the minute and there is to much chopping and changing of the team in my opinion, injuries have not helped and a few dodgy refereeing decisions have contributed to our 4 losses in a row. He cant rest players tonight in my opinion, he is under pressure from the fans, in my opinion he shouldnt be… it was just the sheer amount of success he had last year and it made 4 losses in a row seem impossible… we will recover, form is temporary class is permanent. I expect our main men to start in Kevin Mirallas, Lukaku, Barkley. John stones i hope returns to the defence, him and Jags are by far the best partnership. McCarthy is a massive miss, people who dont watch every minute of everton games might not see the impact he has, but i cant tell you that everton have not won a game without him in the team this season.Barry will likely start which is wrong in my opinion as is very out of form and looks unfit. Besic will hopefully play and unfortuanetly we have Joel Robles in goals. West ham are a good side this season and despite us being unbeaten for 14 in a row against the irons im not too confident tonight..It pains me say that. Did you know. Everton have been drawn 8 times against west ham in the FA cup, winning the first 4 in a row, losing the second (most recent) 4 in a row. Fiorentina travel to rock-bottom Parma in a game they should win especially after a refreshing winter break. Aside from the top two it is all very tight at the top of Serie A. Parma have picked up just 6 points all season but the head to heads show that Fiorentina have won just 2 of the last 6 whilst the remaining 4 were all draws. Last time the sides met at Parma, Fiorentina managed 6 corners and that would be perfect today. Despite the H2H it is a game I expect Fiorentina to dominate and win as Parma are not the team they once were.

Hi guys, I backed over 10 corners in the liverpool game last night,there was 11 awarded but the ref blew is whistle for F/T before the last 1 was took. On the FA website it is down as 6-5 and on bet 365‘s in play it was 6-5. However my bet was settled as a loser and in bet365‘s t&c it says that if it is not taken it doesn’t count!! I’m still waiting for a response from 365 but don’t harbour much hope of getting paid out.
Gaz H, the corner must be taken for it to count, I know this from personal experience as I’ve also lost a bet to this in the past. That’s why I never get too excited near the final whistle until I’m sure it gets taken as this can happen and then you end up feeling terribly unlucky.

Harpreet, not sure why you have so much confidence in Everton because their form is terrible. You might be right but it’s a bet I wouldn’t consider until I saw line-ups. If West Ham go full strength I don’t think they will lose.

Seria A gets into full swing again today after the curtain raiser last night. This is the early kick off with 2 decent sides, roma are the better side on paper but udinese have home advantage and are good at home. They have score in every home game this season (8/8) and only lost 2 of them. Roma have won 4 on the road from a possible seven and drawn 1 which is a good return to be fair. They lost to Napoli/Juventus which is understandable. I would expect roma to win but not touching the match resut on this. Di Natale upfront for the hosts is more than capable of a goal and roma you would expect to hit the net despite missing Gervinho. My thoughts on the Everton game
Everton are a decent team but are just going through a bad patch! 3 of the there 4 defeats in a row were away from home!
Like most decent sides you’d expect them to get a postive result sooner rather than later!
Martinez will be looking to get back to winning ways, eapeclaiiy at home and should be putting out his strongest side! It’s not a match I’d touch but if I was to pick a winner is pick Everton
Al – just a word of warning concerning the Palermo Cagliari match. Cagliari sacked their manager before the winter break and found a replacement in gianfranco Zola. I also feel Palermo will win but not touching it as not too sure how Cagliari will play having such an Italian great as their coach. I’ll be keeping a close eye on it though and good luck!

Dominated possession but created very little and couldn’t even win the race to 3 corners for me. Gomez missed a penalty in the first half which if scored I cant help but feel would have turned the game. Fiorentina then reduced to 10 men in the second half to sum up the afternoon.

MrF-I managed to get a £50 free bet out of bet365 which wasn’t a bad result. I agree that I’d rather have clarity but there is nothing clearer than whether a corner was awarded or not. I don’t mind taking losing bets on the chin but when there was clearly 11 corners in the match I still think the rule needs changing.

mr f to elaborate on your answer to my question…when u say form what exactly do you mean? …wins in more recent games?…overperforming in the most recent games?that’s what i get from it at least, am i right?is there something that puts more weight in your decision than other factors….for example the more recent game is the more crucial factor to form than the game before that etc?
best bettor, usually last 6 games – no point in looking back longer and yes strenght of opposition faced has to be taken into account. You could add in loads of others things – luck, state of pitch, weather, referee, etc, etc.

Even teams home and away form for the whole season helps as teams can be good at home but strangely quite shocking on the road. Obviously you good look at the form for ages and go with a tip but quite often form can go out the window on the day due to poor decision or freak goal or red card or the team you fancy just not turning up. Of course checking form should give you a bit more of a chance but at the end of the day it’s still a gamble with no guarantees

Hibs have just signed Frank Djedje who looks a quality (in Scottish football standards) acquisition. Malonga has been pretty anonymous in games against Gers n Hearts – don’t think he will be missed as much as people think.
In the past we’ve done well against the ‘better’ teams then gone on to the next week and let ourselves done. We have turned a corner so I massively doubt this will happen this weekend.

Hard luck on the SS today – Just got out the office and on my way home now. The results today so far have me a little worried about EVERTON tonight lol. To be honest looking at it even deeper the game tonight is very hard to call let’s be honest about it. This is why many may wish to leave it alone. West Ham look good but EVERTON being at home – whilst needing to really give a good performance tonight is what edges it for me. Risky but going with EVERTON.

Harpreet I don’t want to put you off mate . As its very close game. My concern with Everton is there goal keeper he doesn’t look good with crosses into the box a bit like mignolet and with cresswell and Downing both possessing beautiful crossing technique and with Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan both likely to start with Winston Reid West Ham are strong in the air . Everton much like Liverpool have been conceding for fun with set pieces I believe Everton are one of the worst in the league for defending set pieces this season so you have to fancy west ham to at least score. That said west ham will be without Cheikhou Kouyate and Alex Song Plus Diafra sakho injured it takes a lot of steel out of West Ham and with the pace of miralas and power of lukaku you also have to fancy Everton to net also. Maybe it’s worth taking btts rather than an Everton win I know price isn’t as good but for Everton to win you would have to imagine they would need to score twice . Just my thoughts mate

If the Ref awarded a penalty in injury time then blew is whistle for Full time because there wasnt enough time to take it what should we do forget it ever got awarded?

I can’t see Everton winning, at best a draw for them so taking the draw no bet. West Ham look a lot better, playing a lot better, Everton are on one of their worst ever forms and can’t see them getting a result against a West Ham team in great form having only lost 2 out of last 7 (Chelsea and Arsenal respectively)
Napoli will score a few more goals yet as they just sit back and have fast counter attacks when they are defending a lead.

I slightly favour Scunthorpe but it is the goal scorer market I am going too for my bet and the player I want to be on here is Paddy Madden. Jonny, never ever do these type of bets. If 1 team loses you lose multiple bets and perms etc are exactly what the bookies love punters to do. Every bookies shop has these type of bets on preprinted slips as they basically are begging you to do them.
JonnyUTD, it’s only worth doing a Heinz (57 bets) on long odds selections such as first scorers or correct scores. If you’re being let down by one do the perm which will at least cover losses for one wrong but make sure the odds allow this or back with a bookie who returns stakes for one wrong (usually minimum fivefolds though).
