Jan 2: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

Racing_WilliamHill

THERE was no winning start to the new year for Johnb on Friday so it was three points lost.

He’s looking to get off the mark today and is advsing a double among his picks.

Johnb’s Saturday Tips

Southwell 12:15
Excellent Aim 9-2 NB ladbrokes

Chelmsford 2:15
Lightscameraction 7-2 NAP ladbrokes

Double
Excellent Aim & Lightscameraction 23.75-1 ladbrokes

Lightscameraction (NAP)

Last time out I tipped this horse at 16-1 and he won at 3-1. Adam Kirby surprised me that day as he made all the running even though I think the horse is better racing just off the pace but he proved he can win from the front.

I mentioned last time Lightscameraction has a great turn of foot which is blistering inside the last furlong,
I also said Lightscameraction won last year’s 3yo sprint cup on finals day where Lightscameraction & Blue Aegean had the rest of the field beaten after only 2f. Lightscameraction that day was 4 lengths down inside the last furlong.

Main danger has to be Lancelot Du Luc but this horse is better at 6f although his 5f form is decent enough, I just think Lightscameraction is still improving.

It will be interesting to see how Kirby rides this race as Lancelot Du Luc can also make the running, Chelmsford over 5f suits a front runner so we could see these two take each other on or Kirby might decide to sit just off the pace, either way I can see these two blowing the rest away early on.

Trainer Gay Kelleway believes there is more to come from Lightscameraction who showed he was going the right way when making all the running over five furlongs at Lingfield on his latest start.

The Newmarket trainer said: “He’s in great form. He came out of his last race well. There aren’t many races for him so we’re limited where we run.

“There’s this race and the next one is in February. You’ve got two Listed races, over five and six, and then you’ve got the Good Friday race. I’ve no intention of sending him to Dubai. He’ll be a better horse as he gets older.

“Now we’ve got his brain right with the stalls, and what have you, he won quite well last time. Adam seemed to think there’s improvement in him from last time. Hopefully we can see that on Saturday.”

2 bets for me tomorrow NAP Yorkhill av bet it over the last couple of days at 5/2 and 6/4 its now a huge gamble practically a 1 horse book. Av been waiting on it running over 2m for around a month now and a’m sure it has enough pace for it. Av bet O O Seven a few times but i see it as quite a quirky horse for me Yorkhill is straight forward and to classy for this depleted field hopefully after tomorrow my antipost slip for the supreme will look even better.
NB Caledonia 7/2 Ayr 2.20 Jim Goldie had this horse entered in 2 races at Ayr class2 and class5 and has decided to go for the money in the better race off a feather weight 10-3 trip and ground perfect a’m off to Ayr tomorrow to watch it.
    Happy punting guys

Yeh davisam i bet Caledonia with BET365 as soon as they opened there book as they were biggest there was a bookie 888sport still going 7/2 a wee while ago but av not got an account with them.
Yorkhill has just been heavily bet since Mullins confirmed it was coming across a couple of days ago it looks like its frightened off some of the other runners that were entered.

Johnb are you not a tad worried about the track all its best form is around Lingfield and Chelmsford is certainly different its only run at Chelmsford was pretty poor.

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 11 months ago

stevieg there were a couple of reasons for that Chelmsford run which is why I tell people to watch previous races rather than read about it, firstly the course had only just opened and as stated at the time it would take a while for the track to settle down, the jockeys reported that the track was racing very deep with a lot of kickback and it suited front runners,
        the second reason is
as we know Jamie Spencer was onboard and his style is to come from the back and he held Lightscameraction up at the back that day,
the horse still finished well to be beaten 2 lengths but he was finishing,

The track has settled down now but the the bias towards front runners is even bigger now, it’s a fast galloping track which does suit front runners

        • Profile photo of

I do watch all the races back johnb thats why i know the horse completely missed the break which you certainly cant do round Chelmsford over 5f. I do agree it looks like its going to be a bash up front between front 2 in the betting just up they dont cut each others throat and set it up for something unexposed like Likely.
          Good luck

I believe Channel 4 have lost the rights to show racing to ITV from 2017

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 11 months ago

It was never official but they lost it ages ago and quite rightly
Tanya Stevenson, Graham Cunningham, Alice Plunkett, Jim McGrath & Claire Balding are a bore to watch then you have Richi Persad who knows nothing about the sport and from what I have seen he knows very little about any sport

There used to be people on Channel 4 racing that were very knowledgeable about the sport like John Francombe, Derek Thompson & Mike Cattermole.

Sadly though when it goes to itv we will just the same boring people who get overpaid

What itv should do to get racing to where it should be is to get Derek Thompson & John Francombe back along with Jason Weaver who is very knowledgeable also Matt Chapman as studio presenter & oncourse reporter as he will ask the questions punter want,
Gareth O’Brien, Kevin O’Ryan as the Irish connection
      Hayley Turner & Adam Brookes

Channel 4 have a far bigger budget than at the races who work on a shoestring

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 11 months ago

Sorry I mentioned Jim McGrath as one of the boring presenters which he isn’t

The morning line must be the worst programme on tv, it’s meant to be there to advise punters but they only talk about 2 or 3 races with the rest of the show filled with useless & pointless topics
There should be 2 trainers & 2 jockeys on every morning line along with a clerk of the course from one of the day’s meetings

          • Profile photo of duncanpoundcake
            duncanpoundcake 11 months ago

I never watch the morning line until after I have picked my bets and usually fast forward most of it .I will miss the bits done by Alistair Down but hey ho .

It would appear that my posts are not accepted when certain names are included,so for what its worth here is a shortened post. When the thread started it was the premise of a NAP/NB and an EW bet, which was fine but a few liked a Trixie/patent/lucky15 and that was fine especially if you took busstops 400/1 plus four timer.Gone were the snide remarks, not so subtle digs, paste and post and the ridiculous 20 odd seletions put up.It is easy to see where a persons opinion to a selection for a race comes from if you take time to look at the race. For what its worth 8 Racing Post selectors and me have picked 14 timer maiden Mungos Debut 3.15 Ayr.
    Hopefully onwards and upwards

Dougie that was a great day .. We could do with another one soon

I always pick my own horses before looking at other tipsters . I enjoy studying form and having my own opinions
and luckily have time to do it .. But when form stands out tipsters are bound to pick the same horses as each others.
I agree when people post 15 – 20 selections it dosent make sense and just ignore.
like you say i know where some of the posts people put on here come from think what annoys people is when they want credit for it .No harm putting the tips up as they help people but dont seek praise for them.

      some great guys on here
