IT was a night I wished I'd concentrated on the Champions League instead of the Championship.
Sheffield Wednesday and Derby cost me and plenty of others as both failed to win at home to Brentford and Burton respectively. The Owls' results was particularly surprising but the highlights suggest they were unlucky.
That's the way it goes sometimes and well done to anyone who picked winners. I tipped goals at Man City and Bayer Leverkusen on my CL preview and have to mention the guys backing penalties to be scored and missed – there seems to have been a real run of them in big games recently.
I've dusted myself down and moved on to Wednesday and I have one Super Single running from yesterday – that's Sevilla -1 at home to Leicester.
My Champions League preview gives reasoning for that and I'm adding another Super Single on Sevilla to win and Juventus not to lose away to Porto.
Elsewhere Real Madrid should beat Valencia away in La Liga and if Gareth Bale starts back him to score or score first after his comeback strike as a sub at the weekend.
There are three Europa League games but only Fenerbahce v Krasnodar looks a live game with Man Utd and Schalke leading 3-0 in their ties at St Etienne and home to PAOK respectively.
In Scotland the spotlight falls on a sold-out Easter Road where Hibs and Hearts play their Scottish Cup replay.
There was nothing between the teams in a boring 0-0 draw at Tynecastle and both outfits feel they'll do better on the Easter Road pitch. I can see another draw that pays 11-5 at William Hill and it's a surprise to see Hibs such big favourites at 7-5 with McBookie.
Hearts will have backers at 11-5 with Hills and you can take them draw no bet at 5-4 with Paddy Power. There should be more thrills and spills this time and I fancy both teams to score at 10-11 with Hills.
Jason Cummings loves scoring against the Jambos and hit Hibs' goal at Raith at the weekend. He is 7-5 at McBookie to net while Hearts dangerman Arnaud Djoum is 16-5 with the Scots firm.

Going along to Hibs Hearts tonight, got it wrong the last time as I thought hearts would hammer us but instead found out they are not much better than us, our record in recent times against hearts at ER is different but then again we are the championship team, but going on the last result I expect another tight game without much quality but I also expect someone to nick this game, concalves for hearts looks good as does Jason Cummings who has a nak of scoring in these games against the club that let him go.
Adelaide United host Gamba Osaka in an hour in the Asian Champions League. Osaka have already played a game in the last round of the ACL, where they trounced Malay champions Johor 3-0, showing no signs of rustiness given the J-League hasn’t resumed. They had a fairly successful campaign in the J-League last year, proving themselves one of most prolific attacking teams, and are very much match fit, with the J-League set to commence once more this coming weekend.
Adelaide are looking terrible this season in the A-League, with a poor defense, and a relatively poor attack. I fancy Osaka to come out hard and early against an inferior Reds side, much like they did against Johor and punish their opponents early. However Osaka do tend to favour attack over defense, so I wouldn’t rule out a sucker punch from Adelaide with a counter attack.
Hence I’ll hedge my bets on the early goal for this fixture, with the likelihood of 2 goals being a decent shout (I hope!)

Morning all (or it is morning as I write this!)
Some game at the Etihad last night. My write up on the game ended up being pretty accurate and given the attacking intent of Monaco, it’s easy to see how they have scored so many this season. The speed at which they went from back to front and the runners both in behind, and from deep, was a joy to watch. On the betting front, BTTS and Overs sailed in and made for my 8th consecutive profitable betting day. It has been some month and a stark contrast to the troubles of January. It’s a testament to sticking at it, that’s for sure.
Anyway, enough nattering on, and onto today. Looking at the card, it will be no surprise to see most drawn towards the games at Sevilla and Valencia. I had my reservations about backing Sevilla because it almost seems too obvious. Leicester are in dire form but I can’t quite forget just how well they were doing in the CL earlier this season, even in spite of rotten domestic form. True, Porto smashed them, but that was a second string side that had already won the group.
Really, though, I’m just playing Devil’s advocate. Sevilla should win 2, 3-0 comfortably tonight but I am much more confident in a Real Madrid side bolstered by a returning Gareth Bale to grab two at the Mestalla. Only Sevilla and Barca have stopped Real scoring 2+ goals on the road this season – I don’t think Valencia will add themselves to that list.
I’m pairing them up with Juventus to grab a goal in Porto. It can be easy to be deceived by Porto’s domestic stats, and though I agree that it’s a tough place to go, a price of 2/5 on Juve to score is too big. Juve scored away at Lyon and Sevilla in the groups, while a host of average Portuguese sides have scored away at Porto this season (Rio Ave, Chaves, Maritimo, Boavista etc.). I do agree, however, that Sevilla should grab a couple, so I’m on the following:

Likely to be going against the consensus here but I think Leicester can get an away goal tonight. Ok, they are in terrible form and a shadow of their season last year, but they are still a team with decent players that can hurt you. Sevilla have kept three clean sheets in a row, but prior to that, only had 1 in eight fixtures. Leicester made a host of changes in their defeat against Millwall, and focus should really be on survival, but they won’t want to bow out of Europe’s biggest competition without a fight. Obviously this isn’t a bet that comes from stats, but sometimes value take over, and for Leicester to score in the biggest game of their European history looks value to me. BTTS obviously the better price, and while that should land, football is football and how many times have you watched a game and seen the dog score first?

Just putting up tomorrows thoughts for the Europa League. Pochettino started the likes of Kane and Alli in Belgium and still lost, so will have to do the same again at Wembley if they are to progress. Gent played well but it’ll be a much different game on the road with Spurs knowing they NEED to win. While Stoke are on the horizon, Poch should know that even top 4 might not be a cert this season with how tight it is in the Premier League, so winning the Europa League should be a high priority for Spurs and Manchester United. Gent have one clean sheet in six away games, and received a heavy defeat on their travels against Shakthar in the group stages despite scoring three at home, still losing 5-3.
Second pick takes us to Russia where Zenit were stunned in their 2-0 loss in Anderlecht last week. They controlled the game but let Anderlecht counter time and time again and were left with work to do at home. While they couldn’t score here, they should do in Russia. Anderlecht conceded in their three group games on the road and have lost in both of their trips to St. Petersburg, so I expect the Russians without having played since last weeks defeat to be prepped and ready to erase the deficit.

After yesterdays Champs league teams showed us how NOT to defend I’m going with the opposite today. With Chiellini and Barzagli both back in the squad, I’m hoping for a defensive masterclass from Juve.

Just one of those games where I think Leicester are being too underestimated mate. They might not get much but if they want to qualify they’ll likely need an away goal, because I can’t see Sevilla not scoring at Leicester.

Mr f the betting was a lot closer but the punters have backed Hibs into that price, my view on the first game is that although we played bad “due to the pitch” we still outplayed them, we out battled and out sung them for the whole game,
The reason punters have latched on is because I believe they see Hibs as a better side, our record in recent years against top league teams couldn’t really be any better bar a final loss to County,
We also have no pressure, we may be favourites at the bookies but there is more pressure on Hearts to win this,
I have kept saying this season from an early stage that we haven’t been good enough in front of goal , that our play at times is sloppy and it was good to see Lennon has finally admitted it
Cummings is the biggest culprit but he is young and still Learning, he will still be at Hibs next season unless someone meets our valuation but the lad doesn’t want to move for at least another season and he will get better for us,
