THERE are 16 Europa League ties tonight and you’d say only three or four are dead rubbers.

Levante are unlikely to lose a 3-0 lead in Olympiakos while Viktoria Plzen are 3-0 up going into their home tie against Napoli. It’s difficult to see Ajax blowing a 2-0 lead against Steaua and you’d wonder whether Cluj can overturn a 2-0 defeat suffered away to Inter Milan.

Elsewhere every team will fancy their chances, even the likes of Liverpool, Hannover and Dnipro who trail by two goals.

Let’s start with a quick look at the English sides in action. Chelsea will rest stars such as Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic while Demba Ba is cup-tied but they should still extend their 1-0 advantage over Sparta Prague.

The Blues are no bigger than 1-3 (various) and there are a few contenders for first goal. Fernando Torres is 4-1 favourite at Ladbrokes but I’d prefer to be on Juan Mata (9-2, BetVictor) or Oscar (15-2, bet365).

Oscar’s performed well in Europe for Chelsea so gets my nod and is 21-10 at bet365 to score at anytime.

Newcastle travel to Metalist Kharkiv after a 0-0 draw at home. A 40,000 sell-out is expected in the Ukraine tonight and Alan Pardew’s men face a tough task.

Metalist are a decent outfit but are still building up to full match fitness after their winter break and Pardew has taken his strongest squad to Eastern Europe.

Newcastle just need a scoring draw but I’m risking Metalist, 10-11 at Paddy Power, to edge it.

There’s been money on Liverpool to qualify as they attempt to overcome a 2-0 deficit in Europe for the first time since 1991.

They missed chances away to Zenit, especially from Luis Suarez, and the lack of an away goal could cost them as well as the absence of cup-tied Daniel Sturridge.

At their best Liverpool could do this but Zenit are capable of scoring away and while I expect a home win (7-10, Willim Hill, Ladbrokes) it’s asking a lot to do triumph by 2-0 (to force extra time) or 3-0.

Suarez will be desperate to make amends for his misses in Russia and is worth a look at 4-1 with Ladbrokes to score first.

Spurs are the fourth English side in action and Gareth Bale’s last-minute winner at home to Lyon could prove crucial. The French played well, and followed up with a fine 4-0 weekend win at Bordeaux, but were undone by two Bale free-kicks.

This isn’t an easy task for Spurs but I expect them to hit the target and possibly battle out a score draw. The stalemate pays 5-2 at Betfred while Bale is 21-10 at unibet to net again.

Chelsea or Liverpool – or both – could be on my treble but they’re a bit short and I’ve decided to go for a biggie, starting with my one odds-on shot Dnipro at home to Basel.

The Russians’ coach Juande Ramos is bidding to become only the second manager to win the Europa League three times but his side trail 2-0 from the first leg and have never won a European tie in eight attempts in what is traditionally their mid-winter break.

I’m not saying Dnipro will qualify but should win on the night after victories in their last five at home in Europe against the likes of PSV, Napoli and Fulham.

Basel captain Marco Streller, who scored in the first leg, is out with a knee injury and that’s a big loss. Dabble with Dnipro at 7-10 with bet365.

Next look at Genk at home to Stuttgart. The Belgians battled to a 1-1 draw in Germany against a side struggling down in 12th place.

Genk are battling to be the second force in Belgium behind Anderlecht and are an improving outfit who have netted 33 times at home in the league and who topped Group G with a 100 per cent record. They are 2-1 at boyleports.

Complete the treble with Dynamo Kiev who travel to a Bordeaux side reeling from that mauling by Lyon.

Bordeaux are own in ninth after successive league defeats but managed a surprise 1-1 draw in Ukraine. However, like many eastern Europeans that was Dynamo’s first competitive game in two months and they should be better tonight.

The French have netted just 11 goals in 12 home league outings and that must be a worry against a Kiev side who look big at 13-5 with bet365.

Obviously I’m taking a big chance on my treble but anyone wanting a more realistic one can try Dnipro, Liverpool and Chelsea and that pays a tad under 3-1 at bet365.

Tonight’s treble

I’ll be on Dnipro,Genk,Benfica and Rubin Kazan tonight. Paul I reckon Rubin are huge at 2/1 after winning in Madrid in the first leg and a long haul too the very cold Eastern block won’t be ideal for Madrid who won’t relish the freezing conditions after the long journey. Benfica are keenly priced too at 5/6 at home too Leverkusen. Strong home team that should complete the job they started with a victory in Germany 7 days ago

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Mr H, I looked at Benfica too and expect them to win but again a draw puts them through.

Going to go 3 nil liverpool. The crowd will be up for this tonite. 2 nil ht and gerrard with the winner at the kop end! 14to1. A wee tenner on that.

  8. Mr H 5 years ago

Read in a few places that Simeone will rotate his squad tonight and concentrate on finishing above rivals Real in La Liga and with Real meeting Barca in the Copa Del Rey they have an opportunity 2 win this competition also after the 2-0 home loss last week against 10 men for most of the 2nd half he sees this as a lost cause now and fringe players will start tonight’s match

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Mr H, looks like a Rubin but they don’t need one. I’ve tried to steer clear of teams who don’t have to do much but as usual the Europa League is a betting minefield and as always I advise small stakes.

Craig, I don’t care what other entries I have or what comes in later but if that second one, with Lazio -2, comes in you can have the £50 Line of the Week prize. Anyone who takes Lazio -2 after their Siena shocker deserves to be rewarded it they win by three or more.

Chris, just been out and had a look at the Racing Post and noticed that. Might be tempted, I’ll see. Also tipping against our boy Thornton in the darts so what do I know.

    • John 5 years ago

Chris why would people bet on Enrique? I can see the possibility of Suarez hitting one or more in but why would they tip Enrique?

      • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
        Mr Fixit 5 years ago

John, I read the Racing Post earlier and their take is that he’s likely to play push forward from left-back the whole game and he also scored against Swansea at the weekend. “Enrique could add to his tally” is their headline on the Liverpool match preview so they must believe in him.

        • John 5 years ago

I think Elvis has more chance of netting tonight with an assist from Rory Gallagher…lol…but if Enrique does score i will gladly eat my words :-)

          • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
            Mr Fixit 5 years ago

John, funny you should mention Rory Gallagher as I’m related to him. He was my mum’s second cousin with her dad hailing from Donegal. Went to see him at the famous Glasgow Apollo when I was about nine and met him a few times after that. That was some experience.

            • John 5 years ago

Ha ha maybe i’ll see you at the festival some year, we get some pretty big crowds for such a small town, he apparently played with Hendrix at one stage but i don’t know if that’s true

                Mr Fixit 5 years ago

John, obviously he was pretty big star in his heyday before unfortunately the demons took over. May have played with Hendrix, I don’t know, and believe he was interviewed for a job with the Rolling Stones once. Went to a few of his gigs and visited my grandpa’s relatives in the Glenties a few times.

  14. Sean Ireland 5 years ago

Hate europa lg matces but this is the likeliest treble i can find.
Lyon v Spurs btts 4/6..Lyon have scored in all 7 europa lg games so far scoring 15 goals, spurs have only lost 1 in last 13 games all comps and i can see both scoring here, have a feeling about a 1-1 draw but ill side with the safer BTTS bet.
Liverool v Zenit over 2.5 goals 4/5..Liverpool have to overhaul a 2-0 defeat and will have to come out all guns blazing but i can see Zenit catcing them out with an away goal on the break, they showed in the last leg that they have some quality in their ranks and will be dangerous,a 2-1 home victory would be no surprise so i like the odds on offer for over 2.5 goals in this 1.
Metalist v Newcastle, home win 10/11..At first i was going to get caught up in the euphoria surrounding Newcastles new french legion but after looking at the form of both teams i had to go with Metalist, theyve lost only 1 of last 11 home games this season including a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in november and Newcastle have failed to win in their last 5 away games in europe and have only won once away from home all season in the premier lg.
    £10 stake returns £57.27

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Sean, I don’t like Europa League either as you have to factor in what teams are playing strong line-ups and who’s interested in winning. Look at Napoli in the first leg. Put out a good side but didn’t try a leg and lost 3-0 at home.

  15. Danny 5 years ago

      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Booboo, I always warn about the perils of Europa League, Johnstone Paint, Capital One Cup etc. Best to keep stakes small and have a bet for interest as we all like to do when we’re watching the games. Also if you can see line-ups before betting tonight that’s also crucial.

  19. Seamus 5 years ago

Fair point Paul maybe not just reasoning in what in saying but when you see line ups and shock performances from teams it definitely makes you question the commitment to the Europa.

Point taken Mr Fixit – i 100% agree Its not best night of betting and sadly last night Gala let me down in £30 single and also in £10 double with AC Milan

but i am confident tonight i will get 3 of my draws up and if so i fully intend to go balls out this weekend as i have already have 3 games in mind to back for a 10 ( x3) point treble

Andy, it’s always good to try to get best odds but also you need a bookie you like and a layout you can round easily. Everyone has their favourites and there are good and bad points to most sites.

  30. Chris Guy 5 years ago

I will be happy for Enrique to score anytime. I have high hopes of Suarez first goal.

  31. Chris Guy 5 years ago

I always suggest getting the best odds even if it means opening an account with every online bookie. More flexibility means better prices although I know this is not for everyone. To give you one example I once had £20 on Kyrgiakos (if that’s how you spell his name) to score the first goal for Rangers @ 40/1 with Coral. The guy in my work had £20 on him @ 16/1 with Ladbrokes. A difference of £480, ouch.

  32. Chris Guy 5 years ago

If I was the guy collecting the £340 I would class this as a loser even although its a winner ie shit I’ve just lost £480

  33. Chris Guy 5 years ago

That’s it Danny boy. Surely the talent is unreal in Perth though? Ever fancied getting wee flight to Thailand half moon party? Think that would be up your street lad

A hear you – I used to spend a small fortune a week with fivefolds etc but this site did made me reconsider. Winning more, not too much more but still more. Wish I was braver with goalscorers but just don’t like the risk.

Not you birthday this weekend mate? If it is have a flutter

  62. Seamus 5 years ago

Defo ped! Just re-iterates my thoughts on Europa. Always question teams commitment to it.

Never know what your going to get, only thing I appreciate about Europa is football to watch on a Thursday

  69. weordie 5 years ago

so tonight I’ve had Newcastle, Dnipro, Dynamo, Genk coupon fail

Ajax, Chelsea, Dynamo, Anji coupon fail

Chelsea win (at 1-0) Ajax draw (at 1-0) fail…

I’ll give Sat a shot and if that all fails I’m done

  70. flyboivince 5 years ago

My super single on levante came in handy

  71. 1plus2 5 years ago

Yet again my Quest has taken a knockback with 2 bets down 1 on the horses and 1 on the Europa League, all Ajax had to do was not get beat even a draw would have done me as i did a Betfair Bet/lay coupon.

    Feckin Gamblings for Mugs lol

1plus2, Ajax was a shocker especially as they were keen to reach the final and play on home soil. But that’s the Europa League for you unfortunately.

  72. 1plus2 5 years ago

Never thought Ajax would get beat tbh

  73. Flyboivince 5 years ago

Even did a Ajax plus 1 all dey had to do was stick to a draw n it will be fine n Suarez all killed my other plus 2 on zenith . Sigh
