Wimbledon tennis tips

Day 9 of the Wimbledon Championship is a big one, but they all are now that we are into the second week of the third grand slam of the season.

This is the day when the men's and women's quarter-finals will begin, and it could also mark the end of British involvement in the singles as Cameron Norrie is set to take on the defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz.

Other matches that will take place on day 9 at Wimbledon include Taylor Fritz vs Karen Khachanov, Aryna Sabalenka vs Laura Siegemund, and Amanda Anisimova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Ahead of action getting underway on the show courts, check out our Wimbledon day 9 tips below.

Wimbledon day 9 tips: Our picks

Carlos Alcaraz 3-1 Cameron Norrie (29/10)

The Carlos Alcaraz to win his matches 3-1 selection has served us well throughout the Championships and there is no reason to stop now are at the quarter-final stage.

While Alcaraz's focus is likely to increase now that we are at the business end of the tournament, he is not just facing Cameron Norrie on Tuesday but also the majority of the Centre Court crowd as the 29-year-old is the last Brit standing.

Norrie has been brilliant throughout the tournament, downing two opponents ranked higher than him by the ATP. He has also proven he is up for the fight, winning just one of his four matches in straight sets.

The biggest reason for this bet, though, is Alcaraz's knack for giving his opponents a glimmer of hope in grand slams. He has dropped exactly one set in each of his last two rounds at Wimbledon, and he did the same in four of his seven wins at Rolland Garros.

Taylor Fritz vs Karen Khachanov – over 4.5 sets (5/2)

If there is one match in the men's quarter-final lineup that is going to go the distance, then it is Taylor Fritz vs Karen Khachanov.

Both men's strengths lie in their ability to hit big serves on a regular basis, which makes breaking them very difficult. This is often lends itself to both of them getting embroiled in tie breaks – Fritz has played five of them at Wimbledon so far, while Khachanov has played three.

Both men have also already been involved in two five-set matches apiece at the championships, proving that they are both willing to tough it out for the maximum amount of time to get over the line.

A combination of all of these factors make another five-setter on Tuesday entirely possible.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to beat Amanda Anisimova (9/5)

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has had a brilliant Wimbledon so far, and considering the winners of the women's tournament in recent years have often been left-field picks, the world number 50 will feel she has every chance of going all the way.

She is the underdog with the bookies once again on Tuesday, this time against Amanda Anisimova, but that won't faze the Russian as she has been the underdog in all four of her matches so far.

Pavlyuchenkova has looked more solid and assured on the grass than her American opponent this week, and her experience of being a previous Grand Slam finalist could prove pivotal.
