Wimbledon tennis tips

Day one of Wimbledon 2025 was a memorable one for British tennis as seven home hopefuls made it through to the second round – a record for British tennis in the Open Era.

All seven of these players will return to action on day three of the tournament on Wednesday, and it isn't inconceivable that all seven are knocked out, given the quality of opposition.

Elsewhere on day three, Carlos Alcaraz will return after his five-set thriller with Fabio Fognini on Monday, while Aryna Sabalenka will also be in second-round action after making light work of her first-round match with Carson Branstine.

Ahead of play getting underway, check out our Wimbledon day 3 tips below.

Wimbledon day 3 tips: Our picks

Frances Tiafoe to beat Cameron Norrie 3-1 (16/5)

Frances Tiafoe came through his first-round match on Monday in impressive fashion, dismantling Elmer Moller in straight sets in what was one of his best performances of the season.

Tiafoe's form coming into the tournament wasn't great, and he had lost his only other grass court match this year, ironically against another Brit, Dan Evans, at Queens. However, he flipped the narrative on its head on Monday, and the speed at which he did it could prove to be crucial.

While Tiafoe was only on court for one hour and 45 minutes, Cameron Norrie was put through a gruelling match with Roberto Bautista-Agut that lasted longer than three hours. It wasn't just the time spent on court that could prove to be an issue, but the heat that Norrie played in.

The Brit looked leggy and weary by the end of the match, and it's difficult to imagine that not being a factor on day three. To compound matters, he has lost both of his two most recent clashes with Tiafoe.

The home support should spur him on to take a set, but Tiafoe to win in four is the sensible bet.

Emma Raducanu to beat Marketa Vondrousova (7/5)

Emma Raducanu was the heavy favourite with top tennis betting sites for her opening round match against Mimi Xu, and she duly delivered, beating her fellow Brit in straight sets.

As we know by now, the talented former US Open champion is the epitome of a confidence player, and her performance will have filled her with hope for her future in the tournament.

The level will go up for the second round as she is set to face the 2023 champion, Marketa Vondrousova. However, Raducanu does often save her best performances for grand slams, where her win percentage is 66% (9% higher than her overall win percentage).

The pair have only ever met once before on a grass court, and that was in 2021 when Raducanu won 2-0, despite being just 18 years old. She has the game to beat Vondrousova, making 7/5  a bit of a steal.

Jiri Lehecka to beat Mattia Bellucci 3-1 (13/5)

In many ways, Jiri Lehecka had a breakout tournament at Queens last month, making it all the way to the final before being beaten by Carlos Alcaraz.

In fact, his only two defeats on a grass court this year have been against Alcaraz, the world number two, and Ben Shelton, the world number ten. His opponent on Wednesday, Mattia Belluci, isn't a fraction the player of those two, so logic tells us Lehecka should be okay.

The reason I'm giving Bellucci a set is due to Lehecka's tendency to temporarily lose concentration. He has dropped one set in his last two wins on grass, including in the first round, where he won 3-1.
