As with every Grand Slam, seeding matters. It’s no different at the US Open this year, with the top 32 players in the draw receiving a protected path through the draw, and the best of the best not facing each other until the final weekend.
But who are the US Open men’s seeds? And how are they expected to fare over the next fortnight? We break down the 32 seeded men in New York, outlining their projected finishes, plus a full entry list for the tournament.

- Alexander Bublik – third round
- Alexei Popyrin – third round
- Francisco Cerundolo – first round
- Matteo Arnaldi – third round
- Flavio Cobolli – third round
- Jiri Lehecka – first round
As you can see, we’re picking the majority of the seeding to hold at the top of the men’s draw. The top four are all projected to make the semi-finals, while just two of the top seven are forecast to fall before the quarter-finals.
Further down the list, we smell a few upsets, however. Some of these seeds, such as Sebastian Baez, Francisco Cerundolo and Nicolas Jarry are not in good form, and struggle on hard courts. Though they have been given an advantage with seeding, we still expect they will stumble early in New York.

All of these players earned their place in the 2024 US Open courtesy of their ATP ranking (the top 100 men gain automatic qualification). Or, in the case of Reilly Opelka and a few others, they used protected rankings – a system where the ATP allows a players ranking to be briefly frozen when injury occurs, and used a certain number of times afterwards.
US Open men’s wildcards
- Zachary Svajda
- Christopher Eubanks
- Stan Wawrinka
- Tristan Schoolkate
- Dominic Thiem
- Learner Tien
- Matthew Forbes
These seven players all did not meet the cut for the US Open main draw in terms of rank. However, the tournament organisers are able to hand out wildcards at their discretion. This is usually done to past Grand Slam champions (Stan Wawrinka, Dominic Thiem), home players (Christopher Eubanks) or young players (Learner Tien).

These 16 men all fought their way through three matches to qualify for the US Open. While their rankings are low, watch out for this year’s qualifiers – they’ve had more time to get used to the conditions, and are primed to cause an upset or two.

- Maximilian Marterer
Just the one lucky loser has earned a spot in the main draw so far, with Maximilian Marterer stepping in after Emil Ruusuvuori withdrew over the weekend.
