Day five in New York brings us lots of great tennis matches, and we’ve cooked up two US Open betting tips today that we’ve selected for their excellent value.
In the first tip, we’ll take a closer look at the Frances Tiafoe vs Ben Shelton matchup. In the second, we’ll explore what we predict will happen between Brandon Nakashima and Lorenzo Musetti.
Best US Open betting tips for day 5
Shelton has been a tremendous performer at the US Open, and we’re backing him to continue his run. We expect him to beat Tiafoe comfortably, and that’s the play we’re going with.
As for the other American, Brandon Nakashima, we’re backing him to win big against Lorenzo Musetti as well as he makes a career-best Grand Slam run.
Shelton -1.5 set handicap vs Tiafoe @ 13/10
Ben Shelton has played Frances Tiafoe twice so far in his career, and he bested him both times. While the matches weren’t easy, they weren’t overly complicated either.
This match up is not the most difficult for Shelton, and he’s generally been a tremendous performer in New York. He loves playing here, but so does Tiafoe. So what makes this bet great value?
It’s their attitudes toward the game. Even at his most serious, Tiafoe is still prone to playing too risky and flashy. In that sense, Shelton is much more focused.
He’s there to win the match, and that’s why we’re backing him to take this one. Tiafoe did give him problems in previous matches, but overall, it’s still a match up that is very favourable for Shelton.
He should win at least 3-1 or better.
Nakashima -1.5 set handicap vs Musetti @ 11/10
Brandon Nakashima is the favourite here simply because he’s been playing amazing tennis lately. He’s been pretty good this week in New York, certainly more stable than Musetti, who barely beat an out-of-form Kecmanovic.
Musetti has shown significant problems in holding his serve and has generally been inconsistent. That indicates he’s quite vulnerable and hasn’t looked nearly as good as in previous weeks.
Nakashima has improved with every week, especially this week, where he’s showing how good he truly can be. His serve is really strong and very hard to break.
His baseline play is stable and dangerous in crucial moments, which should be enough to win this one comfortably. Musetti might take one set, but overall this offers tremendous value, as we expect Nakashima to win in at least four sets, if not in straight sets.
It’s a handicap day today, but in both of these matchups, there’s tremendous value with the reasons given above.
