The 2025 US Open is underway at Flushing Meadows, with a stacked field of men and women all competing for the final Grand Slam of the season.
The opening day of tennis action saw the two biggest home hopefuls, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton, cruise through the first round in the men's draw. Meanwhile, over on the women's side, the 2021 champion, Emma Raducanu, breezed through in straight sets, as did Aryna Sabalenka.
Day two at the US Open will see Carlos Alcaraz take to court for the first time. The Spaniard suffered a shock early exit in the event last year, and he will be determined to ensure a repeat of that doesn't happen this year.
Ahead of a stacked day of action, check out our US Open day 2 tips below.
US Open day 2 tips: Our picks
Madison Keys vs Renata Zarazua over 2.5 sets (27/10)
Madison Keys may be the sixth seed in the women's draw, but that is only enough to place her third in the American seedings, which should mean she can go under the radar over the next couple of weeks.
Whether playing away from the spotlight will be a help or a hindrance remains to be seen, but the big-hitting American is known for making life difficult for herself. Her form has generally been good on the American and Canadian hard courts this summer, but she has gone to three sets in four of her last six matches.
Her opponents on Monday, Renata is ranked outside the top 50 but has gone the distance in four of her five matches on a hard court since Wimbledon. Within this run, she has played three sets against another top-ten player, Elena Rybakina.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Reilly Opelka – Total sets 4 (23/10)
The unpolished and imperfect nature of Carlos Alcaraz's game is a big reason why fans are enamored by him than his biggest rival, Jannik Sinner.
A big chunk of his imperfections can be put down to lapses in concentration, and there have been no signs since Wimbledon, where he was forced to play four sets in four of his last five matches, that these lapses have been remedied.
Reilly Opelka is an awkward first opponent for Alcaraz, not least because he will have the crowd support with him. Opelka has also shown some promise on hard courts since Wimbledon, beating Alex de Minaur and taking a set from Daniil Medvedev.
Jan-Lennard Struff to beat Mackenzie McDonald (1/1)
Jan-Lennard Struff is enjoying a little renaissance this year on the ATP Tour and made it through to the third round at the previous Grand Slam, Wimbledon.
The 35-year-old has shown more hard court form than Mackenzie McDonald in recent weeks, winning three qualifiers at Flushing Meadows to qualify for the main draw. This experience means there will be no bedding in process for Struff, but that won't be the case for McDonald, who didn't need to qualify.
McDonald, who now sits outside the world's top 100, has lost three of his last four matches on hard courts and could be a sitting duck for the powerful Struff.
