Southwell 1.30
Jay Kay has won his last two races at Ayr from marks of 71 & 76 but runs today from a mark of 74. He won with more in hand both times, those last two wins were in much stronger races, class 3 & class 4 handicaps whereas today's race is a class 5. That means he has to give weight to all bar one horse but is running from a 2lb lower mark than his last run.
Jay Kay has also won at Southwell before and his form on soft and heavy ground is good so the surface isn't a problem. All in all there doesn't seem to be a negative so Jay Kay really should be winning this.
Southwell 2.30
Mama Africa is 21 runs into her career but has yet to taste success. This is a weak race and she is the top-rated horse here so is well in at the weights. She hasn't run on this surface yet but looks to me like she will like the fibresand with her high knee action.
Although she hasn't won yet her form stands out and it's only last year she ran 11th out of 30 in a class 1 at the Curragh. That was a €148,000 to the winner race and she was only beaten four lengths. Her best runs come in testing conditions so that is another positive for this course and I really can't see her getting beat here.

THE BRAMLEY APPLE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5)
The performance of JAY KAY, which finished unplaced, was considered. K. R. Burke could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of JAY KAY during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
My own view is that for all the movement onboard the horse it all looked a bit false as the horse was showing signs of wanting to do more, I thought connections might have said the horse couldn’t dominate from the front as they would have liked but I see it as the jockey could have done more to dominate the pace of the race but after saying that, I may be wrong and there might be a valid reason for that well below par performance
On the plus side the bookie that has done me out of 17k “IBAS still investigating it” has just been taken for six figures by one Johnb Racing Club member with their bet on Mama Africa
