Young Boys vs Servette

, KO: 19:30 , Wankdorf Stadium
Servette

Young Boys and Servette get their Swiss Super League campaign underway on Saturday night with a game at the Wankdorf Stadium.

These two teams will be looking to build on excellent 2024-25 seasons when they finished in third and second place respectively.

However, with Basel having lifted the league trophy by 10 points, there is much work ahead if they want to challenge for silverware.

How the bookies see it: Servette wrongly made the underdogs?

Given their home advantage, Young Boys are priced at a short 10/11 for this contest by Boylesports.

That is unlikely to prove attractive to the majority of punters when Servette have bookmakers odds of 21/10. The draw can be had at 23/10.

Servette also have the benefit of having played a competitive fixture in midweek, coming through with a 1-0 victory away at Czech side Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie.

Head to head: History favouring Young Boys

In the last 32 games between these sides, there have been a relatively mixed set of results, Young Boys earning the most wins with 13 in comparison to 11 for Servette.

However, there is a major difference with regards to the goal difference with Young Boys scoring 50 times and Servette just the 34.

Furthermore, Young Boys boast a three-match unbeaten streak in this fixture, winning home and away respectively before earning a goalless draw in the most recent encounter back in May.

Servette have prevailed in just two of the last nine contests.

Players to watch: Mraz to continue to impress?

Christian Fassnacht was the standout attacker for Young Boys last season, contributing 11 goals from 18 appearances having left Norwich City at the midway point of the campaign.

The Switzerland international will hope to continue that kind of form this season, regardless of whether he plays on the flank or down the middle of the attack.

Veteran Miroslav Stevanovic top-scored for Servette with 13 strikes in the 2024-25 Swiss Super League, but the 34-year-old may require a helping hand this campaign.

New signing Samuel Mraz scored the only goal of the game against Viktoria Plzen earlier this week, the new signing having scored 16 times for Polish side Motor Lublin in the most recent campaign.

Predicted lineups: Will Servette stick or rotate?

Young Boys could line up with a similar team that started the 1-1 draw with Lugano, their last competitive game back on May 24.

However, Edimilson Fernandes could be drafted into the centre of midfield having re-signed for the club on a permanent basis.

Barring any fitness issues, Servette could keep the same XI from the Viktoria Plzen game, but fitness and the upcoming second leg may influence Thomas Haberli.

Jeremy Guillemenot, Keyan Varela, Dylan Bronn and Loun Srdanovic were all provided with game time from the substitutes' bench last time out and could be handed opportunities.

Young Boys: Keller; Athekame, Zoukrou, Benito, Hadjam; Males, Raveloson, Lakomy, Fassnacht; Virginius, Itten

Servette: Mall; Magnin, Rouiller, Severin, Mazikou; Cognat, Baron; Stevanovic, Antunes, Morandi; Mraz

Anything else catch the eye?

When including pre-season friendlies, Servette have now put together a four-match winning streak, also getting the better of Saint-Etienne by a 3-2 scoreline in recent games.

From Young Boys' perspective, they have been lacking pre-season games, and the last was a double-header on the same day against Vfl Bochum and Huddersfield Town.

Although they drew 1-1 with League One side Huddersfield, they succumbed 5-4 to Bochum.
