Rangers to will look to make it five consecutive wins in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday night as they travel to Paisley to take on sixth-placed St Mirren.
Rangers bounced back from their agonising defeat in the League Cup final against bitter-rivals Celtic on penalties as they defeated Dundee 1-0 at Ibrox in what was a dominant performance.
That result saw Phillipe Clement’s men leapfrog Aberdeen into second place following their defeat at home to Hibs and narrow the gap to leaders Celtic to nine points following their draw at Dundee United.
St Mirren head into this clash off the back of successive dramatic late winners away from home, as they followed their 2-3 success at St Johnstone by winning 1-2 up in the Highlands against Ross County in very difficult conditions.
Stephen Robinson’s men saw their first-half lead cancelled out at the start of the second half and were reduced to 10 men against Ross County before Oisin Smyth scored a stunning free-kick in the 89th minute to claim all three points, leaving them in sixth position, just two points behind fourth-placed Motherwell.
How the bookies view it: Gers favourites
Rangers are on their best form of the season and are 4/11 favourites at BoyleSports to make it five wins on the bounce in the Scottish top flight.
The same firm are pricing St Mirren at 6/1 to claim their third consecutive win, whilst the draw is 7/2.
Head to head: Gers dominance in this fixture
Rangers have dominated this fixture in recent seasons, with The Teddy Bears unbeaten in each of their past 14 meetings with the Paisley Saints, winning 13 of them.
Players to watch: Another Hamza Bonanza?
Hamza Igamane was guilty of missing an absolute sitter against Dundee at Ibrox last time out, but The Moroccan talent has scored five goals in his last seven appearances for The Gers.
Alex Gogic started the game in the Highlands on the bench last time out but scored at Ibrox in the reverse fixture and should come back into the starting 11.
Probable line-ups
Scott Tanser will be suspended for this one following his red card at Ross County, whilst skipper Mark O’Hara will be out injured.
Rangers will be without on-loan Feyenoord defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Tom Lawrence, but goalkeeper Jack Butland should come back into the starting lineup following the birth of his child.
St Mirren: Balcombe, Fraser, Iacovitti, Gogic, Bwomono, Symth, Phillips, Taylor, Kiltie, Idowu, Mandron
Rangers: Butland, Tavernier, Propper, Balogun, Jefte, Raskin, Diomande, Cerny, Hagi, Danilo, Igamane
Anything else catch the eye?”
Phillipe Clement’s visitors have won each of their past four Scottish Premiership fixtures on the bounce – keeping a clean sheet in each of them – and will arrive in Paisley with a little boost after cutting the gap to Celtic to nine points.
As alluded to, Rangers also have a terrific recent record in this fixture, with The Teddy Bears unbeaten in each of their previous 14 meetings with the Paisley Saints, winning 13 of them.
Each of the past six victories have come in matches featuring fewer than four goals – including a 2-1 win at Ibrox earlier this season – and a low-scoring Gers victory is my preferred way to go in this one.
