Peterborough United vs Luton Town

, KO: 12:30 , London Road
Luton Town

Luton Town needed a big slice of luck to make a winning start in League One and will have to up their game if they want to claim another victory on the road at Peterborough United.

The Hatters looked set for a frustrating stalemate as they hosted AFC Wimbledon in last Friday's EFL opener but a late own goal from Ryan Johnson gifted them the points.

That made it a profitable night for the Betting Desk after backing Matt Bloomfield's men to win a low-scoring game but the Luton boss would have wanted a more polished performance.

Bloomfield now takes his side to London Road, where Peterborough will play a side relegated from the Championship for a second successive weekend.

Posh pushed Cardiff City all the way in Wales last Saturday but eventually lost 2-1, bringing up a goals bet for Slips Tips in the process.

Peterborough finished a disappointing 18th last term but with canny boss Darren Ferguson at the helm they will be hoping for a much better campaign.

Home form will be crucial to their hopes so Ferguson will be looking for his side to cause Luton plenty of problems.

How the bookies view it: Hang your Hat on Luton

Despite failing to impress in their opener, Luton Town are 4/5 favourites with BoyleSports here. Peterborough United are 5/2 outsiders and the draw pays 13/5.

Recent head to head: London Road a fortress

It has been three years since these sides last faced off and that came when both were in the Championship. Luton won 3-0 at Kenilworth Road but it ended in a 1-1 draw back at London Road. That made it five games unbeaten at home in this fixture for Posh.

Players to watch: Not a Brad option

Bradley Ihionvien grabbed Peterborough's goal in Cardiff last weekend from the spot. With the striker on penalty duties, he looks their best bet for a goal here at 2/1 with Bet365.

Millenic Alli netted 16 times last season for Exeter and Luton so he should present the biggest threat to the Posh defence. The Irish forward is 7/4 to open his account for the new campaign.

Probable line-ups

Oscar Wallin was fit enough to start for Peterborough at Cardiff so Ferguson has a full squad to pick from here. Thomas Holmes remains a doubt for Luton Town after missing last week's opener against Wimbledon. Expect both teams to be along similar lines to their opening fixture.

Peterborough United: Bilokapic, Johnston, Wallin, Mills, Okagbue, Collins, Khela, O'Brien-Brady, Ihionvien, Odoh, Frith.

Luton Town: Keeley, Walters, Naismith, Andersen, Lonwijk, Makosso, Walsh, Clark, Saville, Alli, Wells.

Anything else catch the eye?

Peterborough were the great entertainers last term, with 68 goals scored and 81 conceded, and that looks set to continue into the new campaign. BTTS and over 2.5 goals came up in their opener so it could be worth a punt here at 20/21 with BoyleSports.

The games involving these sides last weekend both saw under 7.5 corners so there could be some value in betting against a lot of flag kicks here. Bet365 price under 10 corners at 6/5 and that could pay off.

Although Luton are heavy favourites, they took a while to get going against Wimbledon so the half-time draw could be worth a punt here at 6/5 with BoyleSports.
