MANCHESTER UNITED and West Ham United both made awful starts to the season, but both look firmly on the path to recovery.
However, something has to give at Old Trafford on Sunday when they meet in what should be a fascinating encounter.
A much-changed Manchester United comfortably saw off Moldovans Sheriff Tiraspol in midweek in the Europa League.
United appear to be heading in the right direction under Erik ten Hag and he seems to have sorted out the never-ending Cristiano Ronaldo issue at least for it not to be an overpowering distraction. He even got his much-needed goal in midweek.
Since a one-sided thrashing at Manchester City, United are undefeated and would surely have taken a huge boost from that injury time looping header from Casemiro which earned them a point at Chelsea.
For the Hammers, they have only lost twice since the start of September after what had been a very poor start to their season. Both those defeats came in Liverpool to Jurgen Klopp's side and Everton.
They were also in European midweek action when they beat FC Silkeborg in what has been a flawless campaign at that stage.
They have won three of their last five league matches and David Moyes will be relishing a trip to his former place of work.
How the bookies view it
Manchester United are odds-on favourites at 8/11 with Betfred, with West Ham able to be backed at 41/10 with SBK. The draw is 3/1 with bet365.
Recent head to heads
Manchester United won both league games last season at Old Trafford and the London Stadium although the Hammers did win in Manchester in the League Cup.
The hosts haven't lost to West Ham in their last 14 league meetings at Old Trafford.
Players to watch
Antony cost Manchester United an awful lot of money, but he looks like a very good addition. He's scored a couple of goals for United and could be a lively outsider to score on Sunday at 23/10 with UniBet.
Said Benrahma hasn't quite turned into a prolific scorer for the London club yet, but he did convert a penalty in their last league game and also netted against Anderlecht. He is a big price at 6/1 to score on Sunday.
Anything else catch the eye?
West Ham are improving, but they still don't convince on the road and they could fall for a narrow defeat here with Manchester United looking a far better team with Casemiro in it.
They are too short to back on their own, but they can edge this. Try Manchester United to win by a goal – West Ham have lost by that margin at Chelsea, Everton and Liverpool – at 11/4 with bet365.
It could be a low-scoring affair – five of West Ham's last six league games have been under 2.5 goals and three of Manchester United's too. Take the 17/16 for unders with 10Bet.
