Leicester City vs Manchester City
English Premier League, KO: 12:30 Oct 29, 2022, King Power StadiumLEICESTER CITY have finally sparked into life this season but their Premier League revival faces an acid test when Manchester City visit the King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers was teetering on the brink after taking just one point from the first seven league games but a 4-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest finally got them off the mark.
In the last five matches they have lost just once and successive wins over Leeds and Wolves have lifted them above those two teams and out of the drop zone.
Things are looking rosier but Leicester need to keep building momentum and confidence, with a game against City probably the last thing they need right now.
Pep Guardiola's side haven't been at their brilliant best in recent weeks, drawing their last two Champions League games 0-0 and also firing blanks in a 1-0 Premier League defeat at Anfield.
But they beat Brighton 3-1 in their last league outing and if Erling Haaland recovers from the knock that saw him subbed at half-time in Dortmund on Tuesday, City could blow away a defence that has been leaking goals against quality opposition this season.
Leicester have kept successive clean sheets but that was against relegation rivals and they've conceded 12 goals across games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.
How the bookies view it
Despite their recent blip, Manchester City are odds-on favourites here at a best 3/10 with VBet. Leicester are a whopping 10/1 at Unibet, which looks overpriced given their form of late, while the draw pays 11/2 with Bet365.
Recent head to head
Leicester City's record against Manchester City has been decent in recent seasons, with three wins and a draw from the last 10 meetings. They beat Guardiola's men 1-0 in last season's Community Shield but City won the two Premier League meetings, with a 6-3 Etihad thriller following a 1-0 victory at the King Power.
Players to watch
Harvey Barnes has returned to form for Leicester with goals in his last two games and could get some joy down the left wing. He's 15/2 at William Hill for anytime scorer and 6/1 with McBookie for an assist.
With Haaland a doubt, it might be better looking elsewhere for a City scorer. Phil Foden has seven goals for the season and the winger is 9/4 with Bet365 to add to that tally here. McBookie price him at 21/10 for an assist.
Anything else catch the eye?
It's hard to predict if this will be a thriller or a tight game as the last five meetings have produced a couple of 1-0 wins but also a 6-3 and a 5-2. Guardiola's forwards haven't been firing in recent weeks but I've a feeling they could get some joy against his Leicester defence, even though going for goals backfired for me in Dortmund on Tuesday night.
You have to go to over 3.5 match goals to get into odds-against territory at 8/7 with SBK so I'm going for over 1.5 first-half goals instead at 6/5 with Ladbrokes.
Leicester new boy Wout Faes has collected three yellows in just nine appearances this season and that makes him a good candidate for a card here. The Belgian is 7/2 with Bet365 to fall foul of the referee.
