Exeter City vs Blackpool

, KO: 15:00 , St James Park
Blackpool

Exeter City and Blackpool both got off to losing starts in League One last weekend so they'll be desperate to bounce back on matchday two when they face off at St James Park.

Veteran boss Steve Bruce did a decent job at Blackpool last term after taking over from Neil Critchley in September, steering them to ninth place in a season affected by a family tragedy.

He has now had a pre-season to stamp his mark on the team but Blackpool flopped on day one as they lost 3-2 at home to Stevenage, with two bets landing for Slips Tips.

Exeter also suffered a defeat in their opener, with Gary Caldwell's men suffering late heartache at Doncaster as a penalty two minutes from time sealed a 1-0 loss.

Lee Molyneux's spot-kick brought up two bets for our man Greg but it was a kick in the teeth for Caldwell when it looked like his side would grind out a stalemate.

The Scot is coming up for his third anniversary at Exeter and will be looking to keep building momentum, with the Grecians finishing 14th then 13th in their two seasons since winning promotion to the third tier.

How the bookies view it: Brucie bonus

BoyleSports reckon Blackpool will be the ones who get back on track, with Bruce's side the 21/20 favourites. Exeter City are priced at 21/10 and the draw pays 12/5.

Recent head to head: It's Exeter pity

Blackpool have dominated this fixture in recent seasons, going eight games without defeat. They won both meetings last term, with a 2-1 triumph at Bloomfield Road followed by a 3-1 victory in Exeter. You have to go all the way back to 2001 for City's last victory in this fixture.

Players to watch: Ennis back for more

Neil Ennis delivered a scorer bet for Slips Tips last weekend and also found the net eight times last term. The Blackpool forward is 9/5 at Betfred for another goal here.

Former Dundee United winger Ilmari Niskanen hasn't been a regular scorer since moving to Exeter but has a decent pedigree. The Finnish international could be a good long-odds option for a goal here at 23/2 with Unibet.

Probable line-ups

Andrew Lyons and George Honeyman were hooked at half-time by Bruce against Stevenage so it will be interesting to see if they keep their places. Caldwell has a healthy Exeter squad to pick from but may consider changes after a poor performance in Doncaster.

Exeter City: Whitworth, McMillan, Turns, Fitzwater, Swinkels, Brierley, Francis, Cole, Niskanen, Aitchison, Cox.

Blackpool: Peacock-Farrell, Ashworth, Casey, Horsfall, Coulson, Ihiekwe, Brown, Evans, Hansson, Ennis, Fletcher.

Anything else catch the eye?

Exeter's lack of firepower will be a worry for Caldwell, with his side failing to have a shot on target in that Doncaster defeat. Bruce's problems are at the other end, with Blackpool conceding three times to Stevenage in their opener.

That makes it hard to predict if we'll see a lot of goals in this one, although BTTS and over 2.5 goals did come up in both meetings last term. Combining those bets here pays 13/10 with BoyleSports.

Both teams will be a little low on confidence after opening defeats so try the half-timea draw at 21/20, while backing most goals to come after the break pays evens.

We saw heaps of corners when these sides faced off last term, with 14 or more in both games. That makes over 10 corners worth a look in this one at 5/4 with Bet365.
