Dundee United were humiliated in Alkmaar on their last venture into Europe but it would be an even bigger embarrassment if they lost to UNA Strassen of Luxembourg in this UEFA Conference League qualifier.
A rousing 1-0 win over Dutch side AZ at Tannadice three years ago had United fans heading to Holland in high spirits for the second leg. But that trip turned into a nightmare as Jack Ross' side slumped to a 7-0 defeat, with two bets landing for our man Mark.
Ross was then sacked after Celtic inflicted a 9-0 loss a few weeks later and United ended up being relegated that season, with Jim Goodwin at the helm when they tumbled into the Championship.
But the Irishman took them straight back up and last season's fourth-placed finish in the Premiership lined up another crack at Europe for the Tangerines.
United have overhauled their squad in the summer but Goodwin's new-look side should have too much class for Strassen in their first Conference League qualifier.
UNA Strassen don't have a great pedigree and this is only the second European campaign in their history. Finnish side KuPS beat them 5-0 on aggregate in last term's Conference League qualifiers so it would be a major shock if they won at Tannadice.

The bookies can't see UNA Strassen springing a shock as BoyleSports make them 5/1 outsiders. Dundee United are just 4/11 for a home win and the draw pays 3/1.

These sides have never faced off before and it's also the first time Dundee United have taken on a team from Luxembourg.
Players to watch: Fatah a livewire
Amar Fatah looks like the pick of Goodwin's many summer recruits, with the on-loan Troyes winger boasting nine Swedish Under-21 caps. His trickery could prove crucial in unlocking a low Strassen block but I've yet to see any prices for player bets.
Brazilian Matheus Souza should provide the biggest threat to United's defence. The 31-year-old has netted 23 times in 30 appearances in the Luxembourg league so he clearly knows how to finish.

It will be interesting to see how many of Goodwin's summer signings feature, with Fatah, Yevhen Kucherenko, Iurie Iovu, Bert Esselink, Krisztian Keresztes, Dario Naamo, Isaac Pappoe, Panutche Camara, Ivan Dolcek, Zac Saspsford and Max Watters all hoping for competitive debuts.
Stopper Denis Schutte is injured for UNA Strassen while new boys Tim Hall, Ricardo Delgado, Alen Agovic, David Dadashev and Benjamin Romeyns could get debuts.

Anything else catch the eye?
UNA Strassen fired blanks in both legs of their clash with KuPS last term so a United win to nil looks likely in this one, with the odds much better than I expected at 11/8.
Goodwin's side haven't impressed in pre-season friendlies, which isn't too big a surprise given how many new players have checked in. But they should still be too strong for a team playing in Luxembourg so I also like the 23/20 on offer for United to be winning at half-time and full-time.
The minnows are likely to set up to frustrate and it could take Goodwin's side time to break them down. That makes backing most goals to come after the break a decent option and it pays 20/21.
