Celtic are chasing a fifth successive SPFL Premiership crown yet they head into the season opener against St Mirren with an air of negativity hanging over the club's support.
After romping to the title last season and reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, everything should be rosy in the garden for the Hoops support.
But a shock penalty shoot-out loss to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup Final ended last term on a downer and fans are far from happy with the club's transfer activity this summer.
Throw in the fact Brendan Rodgers is heading into the final year of his contract, with no sign yet of pledging his future to Celtic, and it's easy to see why there is a lot of unrest.
But Celtic's squad remains a cut above the rest in the Premiership and rivals Rangers may need some time to find their feet with new manager Russell Martin overseeing a massive summer rebuild.
St Mirren will offer a test on day one, with the Buddies heading into this game off the back of a 2-1 win over Ayr in the League Cup that brought up two bets for our man Greg.
Stephen Robinson's men have finished in the top six for the last three seasons and have given both sides of the Old Firm a bloody nose under the canny Northern Irishman.
How the bookies view it: Hoops hot favourites
Celtic are heavy favourites for this one and BoyleSports price them at just 2/13 for a win. St Mirren are 14/1 rank outsiders and even the draw is huge at 6/1.
Recent head to head: Buddies buoyed by last visit
St Mirren almost spoiled the party on trophy day for Celtic in the final game of last season, with a last-gasp James Forrest goal salvaging a 1-1 draw for the champions at Parkhead. But the Hoops had won eight in a row against the Buddies before that, including a 3-0 stroll at home in January.
Players to watch: Duracell Daizen recharged
Daizen Maeda was the star man for Celtic last season with the tireless Japanese forward netting 34 times for club and country. He's 7/5 at BoyleSports to get off the mark for the new campaign and that looks a good price.
St Mirren striker Mikael Mandron has four goals to his name already after impressing in the League Cup group games. His physicality could cause Celtic's defence a few problems and the Frenchman is 9/2 for anytime scorer.
Probable line-ups
Rodgers has a full squad to pick from but Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston didn't get much action in pre-season and may have to start on the bench. St Mirren should be along similar lines to the team that beat Ayr last weekend.
Celtic: Schmeichel, Ralston, Trusty, Scales, Tierney, McGregor, Hatate, Nygren, Forrest, Maeda, Idah.
St Mirren: George, King, Gogic, Fraser, Richardson, O'Hara, John, Taylor, Phillips, Idowu, Mandron.
Anything else catch the eye?
Celtic are usually great value in the corner markets and that tally could rack up with St Mirren likely to set up to frustrate. Over 11.5 match corners pays 20/23 at BoyleSports while backing Celtic at -6.5 in that handicap is a bit bigger at 6/5.
I fancy Hoops new boy Benjamin Nygren for an assist as the Swede has an eye for a killer pass but none of the bookies has a price for him in that market. You can get odds on Kieran Tierney setting a goal up though and the marauding left-back looks a bit overpriced at 13/2 with Coral.
