Daniel Farke’s men were among the favourites for relegation before a ball was kicked but they’ve acquitted themselves well and sit six points clear of the drop zone after nine games.
Excellent home form is the main reason for that and last week’s 2-1 win over West Ham made it just one defeat in five at Elland Road this term.
But they’ve lost on three of their Premier League road trips so far and this clash with Brighton and Hove Albion is another tough fixture.
The Seagulls sit one point above Leeds and have been a picture of mid-table stability so far, with three wins, three defeats and three draws.
Brighton’s ambitious board will want more than that though, so boss Fabian Hurzeler will be out to climb up the table.
They lost 4-2 at Manchester United last weekend, with all three recommended bets landing for Slips Tips, but are unbeaten at home this season and will fancy their chances.
How the bookies view it: Homing in on the points
With Brighton strong at home this term, BOYLE Sports make them 20/23 favourites for this one. Leeds United are priced at 3/1 and the draw pays 13/5.
Recent head to head: Seagulls soaring
Brighton and Hove Albion have gone six games unbeaten in this fixture since a 2-0 Elland Road loss in 2017. Three of those six matches have been draws but the Seagulls won 1-0 when Leeds last came calling in 2022.
Players to watch: Oh Danny joy
Danny Welbeck has made a welcome return to scoring form at Brighton, with the veteran netting five times in his last four league games. He’s a decent 7/4 at BOYLE Sports to keep that run going.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is finally getting the extended run of games he has craved for years. The former Everton striker has scored just once for Leeds so far but should get a few sights of goal and is 9/4 to hit the net.
Probable line-ups
Hurzeler made a few changes for the midweek EFL Cup defeat by Arsenal but should revert to his strongest available side.
Forward Noah Okafor and defender Gabriel Gudmunsson went off with injuries in Leeds’ win over West Ham and that makes them doubts for this game.
Brighton and Hove Albion: Verbruggen, Wieffer, van Hecke, Dunk, De Cuyper, Baleba, Ayari, Minteh, Rutter, Kadioglu, Welbeck.
Leeds United: Perri, Bogle, Justin, Rodon, Bijol, Ampadu, Longstaff, Tanaka, Aaronson, Harrison, Calvert-Lewin.
Anything else catch the eye?
This is a tricky one to call, with Leeds having a full week to prepare while Brighton had a difficult midweek cup tie away to Arsenal.
Farke’s side have been poor away from home but they might catch the Seagulls cold so backing them in the one goal ahead could pay off at 5/4 with BOYLE Sports.
BTTS has only failed to land in one of Brighton’s league games this season and it would have come up in that 2-0 loss to Everton had Welbeck not missed a penalty.
Backing both teams to score in this one only pays 7/10 at BOYLE Sports but adding on over 2.5 goals boosts the odds to 6/5.
The Seagulls have won an average of seven corners across their last four games in the league so the 11/10 at Bet365 for over nine match corners looks good here.
