Bolton Wanderers and Rotherham United have both got their hands on the EFL Trophy in recent years and they will be hoping a win in this Northern Group E clash can spark their seasons into life.
Rotherham had a memorable Wembley day out in 2022 and it was Bolton's turn a year later as they lifted the silverware.
Winning promotion from League One is the priority for both clubs this season after missing out on the play-offs last term in disappointing campaigns.
But Bolton lost at Stockport in their league opener, bringing up two bets for the Betting Desk, and Saturday's 1-1 draw in Blackpool made it just one win in seven games.
Rotherham's form is equally poor and they have also claimed just one win in seven games after crashing to a 1-0 loss at Doncaster on Saturday.
Managers sometimes field shadow sides in this competition to concentrate on their league games but with both sides needing a morale-boosting win in this game they could be close to full strength.
How the bookies view it: Bolton with the edge
Both teams are in poor form but BoyleSports make Bolton heavy favourites at 1/3 with home advantage. Rotherham are priced at 15/4 and the draw pays 5/2.
Recent head to head: Rotherham seeking joy of six
Rotherham battered Bolton 6-1 in September 2019 and Wanderers haven't recovered from that embarrassment, losing the next four meetings. Rotherham won 3-1 at home last season in League One then ground out a 1-0 victory in Bolton.
Players to watch: Mason's the man
Hull loanee Mason Burstow has made a decent start to his Bolton career, with Saturday's leveller in Blackpool taking his tally to three. He should be their biggest threat for this match but I've yet to see any scorer prices.
Sam Nombe's injury has left Rotherham a bit light in attack and Cardiff loanee Kion Etete is still waiting for his first goal. If he's handed another chance in the EFL Trophy he could get off the mark.
Probable line-ups
Jordi Osei-Tutu is still injured for Bolton while Ibrahim Cissoko could be a doubt after going off after 46 minutes against Blackpool on Saturday.
Striker Nombe remains out for Rotherham along with Sean Raggett and new signing Lenny Agbaire.
Bolton Wanderers:Sharman-Low, Dacres-Cogley, Toal, Johnston, Conway, Erhahon, Sheehan, Cozier-Duberry, Morley, Gale, Burstow.
Rotherham United: Dawson, Rafferty, Jules, James, Martha, Hall, Powell, Yearwood, McWilliams, Hugill, Etete.
Anything else catch the eye?
Although Bolton have claimed just one win this season, they've also lost just once inside 90 minutes. Their last five games have ended in draws so there could be some value in the stalemate here. Backing the half-time draw is safer and that pays 23/20 with BoyleSports.
Wanderes have also been good value for punters who love BTTS bets, with both teams scoring in their last five. It pays 10/11 with BoyleSports here and adding on over 2.5 goals boosts the odds to 6/4.
Three of the last four meetings have hit double figures for corners so that's another market worth looking at but I've yet to see any prices.
