Top Football Tips

PLENTY of good winners on Friday night and let's hope for many more on Saturday.

The likes of HullShaker, kevinmac, kyle b and alex-mufc83 were bang on the money and the Top Treble I had running from Thursday was a 21-10 winning double thanks to Juventus. Ayr v Inverness was called off by high winds and it's worth keeping an eye on the weather on Saturday.

For my Super Single – Friday's was also void – I'm going with Kilmarnock to run Celtic close. The leaders are a massive 16-1 so even with a 2+ start they are above evens and I'd be surprised if they lost heavily.

A bit of the same thinking with the Top Treble with Sunderland +1 and Hamilton +2 in there with Norwich.

Most of my tips are reasoned on match previews as well as Scottish and English previews.

There is a Super Saturday of English Premier League football from Bournemouth v Liverpool to Chelsea v Man City and finally Leicester v Spurs so plenty to enjoy.

VIP tips, mostly long shots, are posted for members only and there are plenty of match previews from Scott and kevinmac to take in.

thanks for the mention Mr F and well done on your 21/1 winner. I’m off up to bonnie Scotland myself tomorrow to pay Edinburgh a visit and check out the Xmas markets, so posting my Saturday picks now.

    National League North – NAP

My local team Altrincham face a visit from AFC Telford tomorrow, pitch inspection pending. Has been a lot of rain but as long as it doesn’t heave it down again in the morning should be OK to go ahead.
This is a potentially tough match for 4th place Alti, with Telford breathing down their neck in 5th, however I think the lads have enough to win this. The Home record speaks volumes and Alti are on a great run – have won the last 4 games in a row, and convincingly at that. They’ve scored 2+ goals in each of these and are on a roll. I was at the York game a few weeks back and they completely dominated them winning 3-0. Also scored no less than FOUR goals against league leaders Bradford PA in the Cup at home the other week.
Telford have been fairly tight at the back but I think they will struggle to keep Alti out and team goals is my NAP.

    ⚠️NAP – National League⚠️

    ⚽️Boreham Wood v Leyton Orient⚽️

Saturday is a big day for orient who have the chance to put distance between them and Salford with the bonus of the early kick off. A win would see them move 4 clear of Salford who then play chesterfield away which is a hard game. We start with Leyton orient been the inform team recently with 13 points from there last 5 games and a total of 10 goals scored and only 2 conceded. They also have the best away record in the league with 25 points collected from 11 games scoring 22 in the process and conceding only 7 goals in 11 games. They also hold the best defence record for the whole league with a total of only 13 conceded – 6 at home – 7 away in total 23 games, very impressive. They are the 2nd highest scores in the league behind Salford who have 47 scored and Orient 44. Their opponents are 11th in the league and only scored 23 in 22 games and have conceded a total of 25 goals with 11 conceded at home in 11 games, conceding every game basically at home. Their goal scoring power is effectively half that of Bonne and Koroma who have scored 23 between themselves which is Boreham woods total. I am taking Leyton Orient to win the game and I feel price is very generous plus they know a win will put them in good stead.

THERE is a runaway leader in Scotland’s 3rd tier in Arbroath but nearest rivals Raith Rovers after a poor start to the season are keeping pace with the Gayfield Park side. They make the trip up the east coast to Montrose and will be looking to maintain their excellent run of form.

Montrose v Raith Rovers (KO 3pm)

If Raith are to close the gap on leaders Arbroath, these are the sort of matches they cant afford to lose. They are in fine shape having won 4 of their last 5 and they have one of the hottest strikers in the league at the moment in Kevin Nisbett.

The young striker has 17 goal for the season already, has 9 goals in his last 9 games and will be looking to continue his fine scoring form against a Montrose side who have won just one of their last 9 home matches.

The hosts have a couple of experienced heads in their side (Sean Dillion, Paddy Cregg) and although they have competed well in this league since promotion last year, they are playing an inform Raith side who I feel have enough quality to edge this and keep the pressure on Arbroath at the top

    Recommended Bet

    •Raith Rovers to beat Montrose
    •11/12 (BetVictor) (NAP)

    ***********************************************************************************

    Celtic v Kilmarnock (KO 3pm)

Game of the day comes from Celtic Park as league leaders Kilmarnock, that’s right league leaders, look to continue their exceptional form under boss Steve Clarke

You have to take your hat off to how Kilmarnock have performed over the last 12 months and its fitting that as soon as they go top of the league they then face Celtic

Its great for Scottish football that we are this far into the season and its not Celtic at the top – there has been comparison to Killie doing a Leicester – That’s not going to happen but as long as they are up there they can dream

Kilmarnock have a terrific record against Celtic and Rangers since Clarke took over and whilst I wouldn’t be surprised to see them score, their time at the top will be short lived as Celtic will have too much quality and will run out easy winners.

I was really surprised when I saw the prices being offered for over 2.5 goals – its the biggest price I can remember a Celtic home game being over 2.5 in the league, well, ever.

They were disappointing against Motherwell midweek but with players like Christie and Forrest at the top of their game, I think this will be an entertaining affair with goals and Celtic running out comfortable winners

    Recommended Bet

    •Over 2.5 match goals

Very surprised to see Tranmere 23/20 for a home win against a leaky Cambridge side. That’s a good price within itself. But I’m going for the man whose name, it seems every week, pops up on our TV screens as the first to bag a goal for Tranmere. James Norwood is the league 2’s top scorer with 14 and counting. He’s 7/2 to be first scorer tomorrow. Also, Norwood, to score anytime and Tranmere to win is 9/4.

There’s plenty to like about todays’s card but having looked at games in every division of the English game, I just can’t help my thoughts returning to Gigg Lane…

    BURY VS. EXETER CITY:

It’s raining as ever in Lancashire but beneath those heavy clouds drifting in off the Pennines, there’s an uncharacteristic shaft of sunlight shining down on The Shakers as we head into the Christmas period.

Our form is tip-top and, whereas we have had these moments of sucess in seasons past, we’ve never quite done it so emphatically.

Ryan Lowe has set up a team of players that are just hell-bent on carving up the opposition half and our goal record speaks for itself; if you exclude the cup defeat to a better League One Luton side, we have hit 4-4-3-5-1-4-2-2-0-4-3 team goals in consecutive games at Gigg since the start of September – for us, that is off the scale.

Exeter had been having a pretty similar campaign but the wheels have fallen off in recent weeks with a home defeat to bottom side Macclesfield capping off a poor run – 5 draws and 1 defeat in their last 6 away days doesn’t bode well for the long-travelled fans but does offer an insight into their chances of a win against League Two’s form side.

I’m taking on 3 selections based around Bury goals, be interesting to see if Lowe starts Dom Telford but I think he may be used off the bench and both him and the more obvious Maynard are both good shouts for a goal.

    BURY OVER 1.5 TGS…4/6

    ????

    BURY OVER 2.5 TGS…9/4
    (Bet365)

    Best of luck ?

Having said in the previous post of James Norwood of Tranmere. A nugget to be rolled on these along with Norwood to score anytime and their respective teams to win.
    Norwood – Tranmere
    Pukki – Norwich
    Szmodics – Colchester
    Walker – Mansfield (1pm KO)
    Agard – MK Dons
    Sharp – Sheff U (5.30 KO)

Its been filtered somewhere, anyway, i’ll summarize quickly before I sleep. Derby have an injury crisis in holding midfielder, and also left back and central defence. Ledley is still out injured and now Bradley Johnson decided to try to emulate Luis Suarez by biting a Stoke player that was missed in the aftermath of the nasty tackle on Keogh that saw a Stoke player straight red carded, Johnson got his 5th yellow before the cut off, got a mandatory 1 match ban – to miss the Swansea victory + because the ref missed the biting incident, the FA gave Johnson a 4 match ban. The stoke player said he never bit him. But tv doesn’t lie. Stupid and reckless. He got what he deserved. Sadly, Stoke still beat us with 10 men. A sucker punch.
To go with the lack of coverage for Huddlestone in holding midfielder, we are now reliant on Thorne and Butterfield who are getting some good results in the U23’s side. How we miss an all firing Thorne.
Curtis Davies nearing fitness played about 120 mins of football upto and including the stoke game but a serious season ending injury in the Stoke game means Derby need to get Thorne back and soon. He played against Man City in the U23’s with Butterfield and were picking up some convincing wins before City beat us 1 nil last night. Surely neither will play a part tomorrow when we play Wigan.
Both Forsyth and Olsson ( 1st and 2nd choice left backs ) are sidelined at minimum end January/February which is a worry, but Waghorn is gradually getting closer to fitness and Bryson and Mount in midfield seem to be back in the starting 11 after small injuries. Our front line including Wilson/Lawrence/Marriott is working. Wilson’s consistency from a freekick makes Ronaldo look like an amateur.
We’re still leaking goals and last weeks victory against Swansea was just 6 mins from a 2 nil rams victory, a crumb of comfort to take the 2-1 but no clean sheets in how long???
In 9 days time, the rams entertain Forest who are about on-par with Derby with results, they’ll fancy their chances but I don’t think they’ll get much in all honestly.
It is about momentum, if both sides can get a good result at 3pm, both teams will be buoyed with the chances of taking the points on the 17th for the evening kickoff.
Derby face Wigan and stats back up a btts. I’m not convinced, we’re improving but due a win to nil. Forest have some good form and with Lewis Grabbed hitting the headlines, I’m expecting they’ll beat Preston.

My £15 has a double on the cards with bet365.

      Forest win @ 21/20
Derby win to nil @ 10/3

      double pays 7.8/1 + stake

Yeah it’s the league title, it looked a two horse race but with all the players leaving Billericay it’s handing the title to Torquay, the exodus is looking like it’s going to continue and makes people wonder if the owner Glenn Tamplin has lost interest with the club losing so much money

he means the league title!! i had us at 10s antepost, and also a fiver double with leeds that pays £330

tough tough tough game today against second placed welling, the wise money has been saying all week that it’ll be postponed, after truro’s game (they’re ground sharing) went the same way last weekend and its rained almost incessantly since then. but the wind had begun yesterday, and its brightened up so it looks to be going ahead!

we’ve got no reported injuries following our impressive midweek win at dartford. i’d like to be more confident of another win, but being a tufc fan makes you naturally pessimistic, things just arent supposed to be this damn good down in sleepy devon, we’re playing dream football at the moment, our strikers are all on fire, the midfield seems calm and composed and the defensive five seem finally to have learnt how to keep a clean sheet! we’re playing with a verve, a passion and a togetherness that seems unbelievable given the dirge that the (practically) identical team were churning out under gary owers!

i’m going to have to go for a home win tho, just because! 4/5 with betway will be my NAP.
i’ll personally back -1 (21/10), tufc to win second half 6/5 (as i have done in most games since GJ took over, we’re the only full time squad, so fitness tells as the clock ticks) and if i can find a bookie will back jamie reid to score again, plus a speculative goal for the impressive connor lemonheigh-evans too

    • Avatar of paul bickham

the news that jake robinson has left billericay for maidstone makes the title coming to devon ever more likely, he is their top scorer with 12, so you might as well double up with jamie reid to finish top scorer too!

Don’t generally post much but always love a Desmond bet as will sometimes come in even when a team does win.

Today I’m going for an East Anglian double.

    Norwich over 1.5tgs 8/15
    Stoke over 1.5tgs 8/11

    Double 1.65 @skybet

Reasoning with both is fair clear but Norwich (although it pains me to say it) are on a great run of form and are at home to a struggling Bolton side. Having scored 4,4,4,3 in their last four games should cover the 2 needed.
My team Ipswich are in terrible form and are with a key player in Cole Skuse who is as close to a defensive midfielder as we have got we conceded goals for fun and although Stoke didn’t have the best start to the season have picked up lately and have covered the over 1.5 in their last 3 games against better opponents.

Ain’t I glad it’s the weekend and the return of Seria C Group games and today it’s a match between 2 of my favourite 3 sides with the other being Carrarese who are at home tomorrow ? . 3rd place Trapani welcome unbeaten top dogs Juve Stabia to the holiday island of Sicily and it looks like it could be a scorcher for goals.

    ?? Seria C Group C

    Trapani v Juve Stabia

The home side sit 3rd after 13 games having won 8,drawn 3 and lost 2, they’ve scored 22 & conceded 8. They are 100% at home with 7 wins from 7 scoring 17 & conceding 2. They’ve scored in 12/13 including all 7 homes, infact they’ve scored in 24 of their last 26 home games going back to the start of last season.

The away side sit top of the tree after 13 games with 10 wins and 3 draws, they’ve scored 29 & conceded 6. They’ve won 5/6 on the road and drawn the other. They’ve also scored in 12/13 games and all 6 aways, infact they’ve scored in 13 of their last 15 aways in Seria C.

H2H from last season was a couple of 3-1 victories for Trapani. Which again points to goals today.

Both sides have tight defences which might put some off going near this match but you can’t ignore the goals for stats and H2H. Both have netted in 12/13 games and 2x 3-1 games last season. I appreciate the main pick is under Evens but I feel its a great chance of landing

Trapani v Juve Stabia BTTS 5/6
    BTTS and o2.5gls 8/5

    Smaller stakes at longer odds

I’ll get old faithful up today just incase the bookies eventually twig that Carrarese are being a gift on the goals markets and drop prices. I’ll keep backing them till they do

    ?? Seria C Group A

    Carrarese v Pistoiese

What have I not said about top of the table Carrarese in the past few weeks that they haven’t delivered on. They’re the top scorers in Italys 14 divisions between Seria A-D with 39 goals and last week cemented that place with a 5-0 win away at a Pro Piacenza side that drew 3-3 with Pistoiese.

This week they entertain 3rd from bottom Pistoiese who have conceded 2+ in 6/12 outings but haven’t faced an attacking force like Carrarese so far. The 4/5 on Carrarese to score 2+ is a gift wrapped ticket from ?

Let’s get into the meat and bones with stats…

Carrarese have 39 goals in 14 games and have conceded 20 which gives a goals per game average at a whopping 4.21 and at home that average rises too 4.67 with 20 goals scored and 8 conceded in 6 games. They’ve scored 2+ in 11/14 including every home game, they’ve scored 3+ in 8/14 including 5/6 homes. Homes results…

    4-0,2-1,4-2,3-4,3-0,4-1

The away side sit 3rd bottom having played 12 games but that could be worse but for the fact they’ve played 8 of the other 9 who occupy the bottom half of the bottom with themselves. They’ve only conceded 2 in their last 5 games but that’s about too come too an abrupt end tomorrow.

    Carrarese o1.5tgls 4/5 NAP ?
    O2.5tgls 5/2
    O3.5tgls 6/1
    O4.5tgls 10/1

They’ve covered the handicap in 4/6 homes so

    Carrarese – 1 13/8
    Carrarese – 2 4/1

    Carrarese ?

      jos 6 years ago

Great info mr h. I’ve just browsed on 365 (sshhh) and your boys Carrarese are indeed 4/5 to score 2. The bookies haven’t obviously twigged yet as you say, and long may they not!

    Arsenal > 1.5TGS, Oxford v Truro BTTS 6/5 – half stake
St Gallen v Xamax, Young Boys v Thun BTTS – 7/5 – Main Bet
I see Liam & Kyle have put up the Young Boys for BTTS & Overs – Will take the BTTS and add the St Gallen game. St Gallen have conceded at least once in every home game. Xamax are not great but have scored in 6/8 aways. GL all today.

**WON** – Pretty simple after early Thun goal in the 1st Half and keeps double alive. Didn’t back City in the end, major put off for me was Sterling being given a central attacking berth, never rated him in that position. Onto tomorrow ?

    Kell Brook Vs Zerafa

    Over 6.5 Rounds

    8/11 Ladbrokes

Kell Brook should get the job done here, but the bookies are expecting an early finish…they may get one but I don’t see it. Zerefa is tough and boxed well against Peter Quillin before he got KO’d. Its the only stoppage on his record and I really think this fight will go to the 7th round.
Expect Kell to get some rounds in tonight. Decent price.

Well done with Tottenham game, unlucky in Spain ? Booking totals may be worth keeping an eye on, bookings in Inter game yesterday were set at 80+, only amassed half that total. Although risky, unders may be a good way to go if bookies keep marking some of these totals so high.
