AFTER sorry Scotland left empty handed from Israel now England face Croatia in an empty stadium.
Alex McLeish's men flopped in a 2-1 defeat and it was a story of same old dismal Scotland. They tanked the dnb single despite being a goal up and a lack of goals in Russia torpedoed the treble.
Greg was served a winning Nap by Serbia and there were some cracking long-shot winners from Cockerspaniel and Chip.
On to Thursday and there's more Nations League games plus a bit of domestic action including the usually goal-laden Eerste Divisie.
Belgium kicked off their Nations League group with a 3-0 win in Iceland and can make it two from two against Switzerland. They've been in cracking form and nobody more so than Eden Hazard. The Chelsea maestro is playing out his skin for club and country, has scored in his last three Belgium outings and is 13-10 with McBookie to keep the streak going.
Also on a decent run are Austria and they should have too much for a stuffy Northern Ireland.
Scott's Tips
- Belgium win & over 1.5 goals
- Austria
- (17-10, BetStars)
- Hazard to score
- (13-10, Betway)

Sky – 3.3 Points
Sky is the only bookie I can find that offers this market and I think it is a more than fair price in what I believe will be a tight contest, I dont think NI will win but I wouldn’t rule out a draw but I feel they will keep themselves in the game even if they fall behind which should mean there should not be a letup in attacks. This should be a tight game with goals in short supply IMO. I think NI will contribute to the corner tally as they will look to play on the counter in the hope of gaining set piece opportunities to nab a goal. NI games can often have a significant corner tally as they adopt a safety first approach, get plenty of bodies behind the ball and often defend for there lives with there bodies on the line. In NI and Austria’s last competitive fixture against Bosnia, they racked up 18 and 7 team corners respectively. I expect the ball to be played out wide a lot in this contest leading too many crosses throughout which will hopefully lead to what I require.
Same old dismal Scotland? I’m like a broken record about this but McLeish shouldn’t be anywhere near the job. The SFA should never have ditched Strachan either in the first place. No wonder Griffiths pulled out. Mcdonald instead of Armstrong is baffling, Forrest with 4 goals at the weekend still on the bench, Tierney playing centre half. From nearly beating England at home too a clueless inept performance in Israel in the space of 16 months. Mcleish is an anchor toed to the Scotland ship and it’ll go nowhere until there’s a change of captain at the helm
Agreed
Alves he’s got Tierney and Robertson yet doesn’t play a left back? He’s putting square pegs in round holes. The sooner he goes the better for everyone involved. In fact he should do what he done the first time around and just walk away
Going backwards already H, Albania were the worst team we’ve played in a while and we made Israel look like Brazil at times last night. How Forrest never started and Armstrong never played at all is mind boggling. Some of the subs tae, Strachan should’ve been kept for another campaign but even he was getting abuse for picking majority of Celtic players in his starting 11.
Yep McLeish was never the right man but Strachan failed to get us to two tournaments so was hardly pulling up trees either. Decent amount of talent in that squad, a decent manager would get much more out of them than clueless big Eck.
No wonder Scotland got a poor performance when the manager plays his two best players out of position,2-1 flattered them.no joy with goals in the Russia game onwards.
Guys..why didn’t you raise your concerns before the game about team selection. tactics etc.when it was clear he was going with the same starting eleven…
What does it matter if its before or after? Mcleish is a terrible manager
Can’t comment on his capabilities as a manager …think it’s for the guys who compete professionally and who have worked under him to make that judgement…
Used to quite like Scotland but after the way the majority of Scotland fans got behind anyone playing against England in the World Cup all I have to say is hahahahaha
@acsafc get over it ffs, it’s football and it’s a rivalry
Hahahahaha rivalry it’s like Manchester U playing Salford men against boys
England were lucky to escape with a point last game and needed a last minute equaliser did they not??
It’s been a long week and one I’d rather forget on and off the betting field but hoping Friday brings a welcome break and I’m turning to the Nations League for a match featuring teams with both chequered shirts and chequered form…
CROATIA VS. ENGLAND:
This game has a strange symmetry to it; not long since that both were going head to head in a game with the world at their feet but football can be a fickle mistress and each side now look to be fighting out a potential ‘drop’ into the 2nd tier of this obscure NL format.
The World Cup game may have been relatively low scoring but both teams found the net and the historic H2H’s actually have a very productive profile with match goals totals of 2-6-5-5-2-6-4 since 2003 with only one of those games failing to see both teams scoring.
Different times and different squads but international football is pretty consistent when it comes to H2H’s and it’s worth noting those goal stats…it’s also worth paying attention to another market that has stood me in good International stead over the last cpuple of years and that comes in the shape of corners.
England were red-hot on their set-pieces in the World Cup and if we’re being honest, without them they wouldn’t have gone as far as they did – can’t help but notice how many times England are awarded a corner within the opening stages and that will form the basis for one of my selections.
I think the current setup is very much geared towards pushing the flanks and seeking out those opportunities to get to the bi-line where the resultant corners are very much a welcome reward when you have folk with massive foreheads like Kane and Maguire waiting in the box!
Plenty of brave squad additions by Southgate who’s clearly not afraid to base selections on club form and that’s refreshing to see – I hear a lot about the youngster Sancho from Dortmund but have yet to see him play so will be interesting to see if he gets a run-out.
I’ve a feeling it may be a pretty decent match –
history has certainly not been shy of offering up plenty of action and, of course, there’s the little matter of avenging that very recent and very sore World Cup exit for the travelling England team.

@cockerspaniel I’ve been having regular punts on the Skybet bookings specials having seen the success you’ve had with them. Had a cracking night with them last night, thanks for highlighting these! I’ll follow you on the above, hopefully the bookings specials also become available later, notice they don’t have them for tonights matches so far.
Good luck Liam
Well in last night cocker lad some crackers there mate.
Cheers macca.
Skybet are at it like, av took 5fold goal both halves at Austria, Belgium, Greece, Croatia & Arbroath at 20/1+ but thought the specials for NL looked awfy low at 90/1 for 7 games wi a few odds against in there. 90/1 in specials but 98/1+ if you do them on an acca. Chucking fancers 😂
I have noticed that before alves . it is worth checking bet365b out as well. Sometimes their odds are better than skyspecials.
365 don’t do gl both halves unless it’s singles via betbuilder, can only do gls in 1st or 2nd half accas or team tp score in both halves. WH and PP usually do gl specials tho
Really wish bet 365 would get the goal each half market. They have everything else and if got that then it would be complete.
Like Belgium game for goals tonight
O2.5 8/11
Dutch Keuken Kampioen divisie
Volendam v Almere
Best bet for the night looks like Almere DNB away at Volendam. Almere are top of the league and were close to promotion last season. They have some talented attackers and already scored 18 in 8 games. They conceded 9 and only 3 in their 3 away games. Volendam is the lowest scoring side in the division with 5 goals in 8, scored by 5 different players. I can’t see Almere lose this game.
Almere draw no bet is the bet for me @ 1.85
I’ve been following Almere since last season and been backing them to score 1St half this season…going again tonight
Almere to score 1st half 3-4
Doubling it with Belgium ht-ft 11-10
Double pays just over 5-2 (betway earlier in the week)
Good luck all tonight 👍
Poor from me….although to be fair Almere have scored 1st half in past 4-5 games so can’t complain. Unlucky Mr orange with dnb after Almere taking late lead…at least no damage done. 👍
Yeah, unlucky in the end. Volendam get the second with a free kick late on, but that’s football in this division. Always try to keep the draw as insurance

Nothing from me yesterday but I hope it was a decent day for those who dove in. It’s a ‘meh’ card as far Friday’s go, but one game sticking out to me today involves some Dutch ladies and a surprisingly tempting array of prices available at Betfair.
Achilles 29 W v Den Haag W
A while back, I backed goals between Achilles and Heerenveen based on the stats available from last season and the manner in which either sides’ first games had gone. That duly obliged with Achilles taking a 2-6 spanking on their own turf. I decided to take note of any of their upcoming fixtures and, after a 5-1 defeat on the road last time out, they welcome Den Haag this evening.
Last season, Achilles and Den Haag met on 4 occasions (all this calendar year) due to some additional meetings in the ‘Relegation Group’. BTTS landed each time, with scorelines of (2-2, 2-2, 4-1 and 2-1). Achilles unsurprisingly lost on those two occasions, but noteworthy is that they scored in each game – and 3 of them were played away from home.
In fact, for all of Achilles’ poor form, they generally do find the net. BTTS and Overs regularly lands and just twice this calendar year have they failed to score in 3-0 and 6-0 defeats. That’s a goal in their last 16 consecutive games against various opposition. This form has continued this season with 3-1, 2-6 and 5-1 defeats and I think the prices are far overestimating tonight’s opponents.
Den Haag, aside from the recent H2H record, have started the season well enough. They lost 2-0 on the road to a side who beat Achilles 5-1, but then drew 2-2 with Ajax and won 3-1 last time out. In the context of the league, it’s ‘typical’ form but of course includes 0 clean sheets. When compared to the calibre of opposition that Achilles have netted against so far, there’s no reason to think they couldn’t do so again tonight.
It’s the price that’s the tempter. O2.5MG is unsurprisingly a best 2/7 (Betfair), while O3.5MG sits at an originally tempting 8/11. However, for just a little less juice you can get 4/6 on both sides bagging a goal. Although the odds are of course reflective of Achilles’ dire form, I reckon BTTS probably has more of a chance of landing as a 3-0/4-0 win for either side does – and you’d have to expect goals. Therefore, at the prices I think BTTS represents value in a league such is this (I had it priced up a best 4/9).
BTTS @ 4/6 (Betfair)

Like the look of these 4 games for the home teams scoring at least 2 goals each. Boosted to 7/2 on Hills.
16:00 – Greek Cup – AEK Athens 1/2
17:45 – Austria Regionalliga Central – Gleisdorf 3/10
18:00 – Denmark 2nd Division, Group 1 – Skive 4/11
19:45 – Nations League – Belgium 4/7
AEK have scored 10 in last 4 v Lamia, (3 home wins, 5-0 friendly, 2-0 league, 2-0 Greek Cup, and a 1-0 away win), all in last 13 months.
Gleisdorf have scored 13 in 6 at home, while their opponents have conceded 10 in 5 aways, and its 4th top v 3rd bottom. Drilling down further, while theres no head to heads history, comparing each teams respective results so far, leads me to conclude Gleisdorf should be putting at least two past their opponents
Skive have scored 16 in 6 at home, while their opponents have conceded 8 in 5 aways, but that is mainly down to their away games being against against teams below or around them in the league. Only h2h between them was a 1-0 away win for Skive in August, but again like the Gleisdorf game, comparing each teams respective results so far, leads me to conclude Skive should also be scoring at least two today.
Belgium face a tougher test than the above 3 picks, with the visit of the Swiss this evening, but while the Swiss have only conceded more than 1 goal in one of their last dozen matches (including friendlies), I can’t see them keeping Belgium to one goal or less, especially when they are at home.
Was tempted to add Austria (at 5/6) to score 2 v NI (or even just score), as got a feeling Austria will score 2, but as has been mentioned NI are stuffy, and as I don’t have the same conviction on it, and stats don’t sway me enough, I’m leaving that game out it and sticking with the 4 picks.
Good luck on all your bets today.
NIGHT two of the Nations League matches and we also have a busy u21 qualifying card to get stuck into
Austria v Wales (7.45pm)
I’ve had a lot of success backing Austria in 2018 and this looks like another match in which they will triumph in. They’ve disposed of strong opposition at home recently having beaten Uruguay, Germany, Sweden and Russia, all of whom are stronger than today’s opponents Northern Ireland
Just one home defeat from their last 11 is good going (that was against Brazil) – and they play a side who historically don’t travel well at all. when you look back at Northern Irelands away, its pretty poor. Just 10 wins rom their last 74 matches on the road is eye watering stuff but they are in decent shape.
They had a fine 3-0 win at home against Israel and before that they absolutely battered a good Bosnia side but somehow lost 2-1. I dint think they’ll win but are capable of scoring and given Austria’s impressive home form, we should see at least two goals
Russia u21 v Macedonia u21 (5pm)
The Russians have seen over 2.5 goals land in 7 of their last 8 games and with home advantage, they’ll be looking to make inroads on Serbia and Austria who sit above them in the league (they play each other today)
They are up against a poor Macedonia side who have won just one of their last 11 matches but it’s the manner of the defeats that must concern them. They conceded 2 or more in 10 of those matches including 4-3, 4-0, 4-2 defeats
This should be an easy victory for the Russians

Austria v Northern Ireland over 1.5 goals
Russia u21 v Macedonia u21 over 2.5 match goals

JUVENTUDE VS. GOIÁS (2315 KO):
Goias have been susprisingly good to back this campaign and will be taking on a Juventude side with just 1 win in 13 and sitting unhealthily in the drop zone.
My concern lies around the fact that, despite their dimal form, the hosts don’t concede many but Goias have hardly been short of goals and have hit 3-0-2-0-2 away from home in their last 5 on the road.
Certainly not one to go mad on but I’m putting my faith in a Goias side who have had a great campaign so far and rightly sit in 2nd spot:
