WHAT a day it was at The Open as Shane Lowry fired a super eight-under 63 to out one hand on the Claret Jug.
It was a magnificent display by the big Irishman in front of adoring home fans and he did well to keep it going under such emotional circumstances.
Lowry blew a final-round lead in the US Open a few years ago but says he's learned from it and I can't see him letting it slip even if bad weather is forecast. He was 66-1 pre-tournament and is now a biggest 8-15 with bet365 and BetVictor.
Tommy Fleetwood is his nearest challenger four back and is 4-1 at Unibet while JB Holmes, a shot further back, is 33-1 at Ladbrokes and others.
Majors expert Brooks Koepka has fired three steady rounds but finds himself seven back and even for him that looks too much. He is third favourite at 12-1 with Unibet ahead of Justin Rose who is 20-1 across the board.
Three of my four antepost picks lie in the top 12 so hoping for places from Jon Rahm and Matt Kuchar.
Saturday's twoball treble won at 4-1 and I've picked out another. Again draw is not void.
2pts Twoballs Treble
- McDowell to bt Lewis (11.22am)
- Thomas to bt Reed (12.07pm)
- Koepka to bt Holmes (1.37pm)
- (18-5, Marathonbet)
Antepost Picks Previously Advised
- 2pts Koepka to win (11-1, William Hill)
- 1.5pts ew Rahm (16-1, Betfred – 8 places)
- 1pt ew Kuchar (30-1, Coral – 10 places)
- 1pt ew Woodland (70-1, bet365 – 8 places) MC
Looking for at least two returns with my ante post e/,w bets Lowry, Kuchar, Stenson and Thomas!!
Golf has been great. 1 out of 3 with my 3-balls on Friday, didn’t get a chance to post yesterday.
Straight forward double today
Noren to beat Kuchar 6-4
Finau to beat Rahm 6-4
Double pays 5-1 (bet365)
Lowry’s to lose, long way to go yet but he has been superb, great 63 yesterday.
Good luck today 👍
Can’t see Lowry losing – he’s a great bad weather player which will help him even more.
