MVG is 5/4 to retain his European Championship as the finals take place in Belgium screened live in the UK with coverage exclusively on ITV 4 with coverage from 12:45 Friday.
With the European championship criteria exclusively based on performances in the ten European Tours this season, MVG won six of the ten, with Wade, Taylor, Suljovic and Alan Norris winning the other four. In addition with only the top eight seeded the draw has thrown up son crackers, but who are the eight seeds?
1; Michael van Gerwen

3; Peter Wright
4; James Wade
5; Kim Huybrechts
6; Dave Chisnall
7; Alan Norris
8; Jelle Klassen

MVG comes in as number one seed and will square off against Simon Whitlock in his opener. There will be backers opposing MVG based on the Wizards recent resurgence on the floor events. MVG like most players will not enjoy the prospect of the best of 11 leg banana skin format but this does not usually phase Mighty Mike although Whitlock would not be the easiest of opponents to dispose of in the opener.
With a potential second round clash with Gurney or price, both of which lack the extended format of best of 19. In the other half of the quarter we have Klassen taking on the inform Steve West with the winner of this playing the winner of out of sorts Michael Smith and Stephen Bunting.
With Michael missing out on the final pro tour events to rest up after an impressive World Grand Prix can accelerate to a third successive crown looking to make as light work as possible.
With TV wins over Whitlock and Anderson in October will be ready for the busy next five weekends where Michael will be aiming to be involved in all stages of the event.
Looking at the bottom half of the draw Mensur Suljovic has had a spectacular 12 months and toes the oche against Jermaine Wattimena who has been a regular on the PDC European Tour circuit. Suljovic could run into Taylor at the wrong time so could be a more of a cracker if they met than the pasting suffered back at the World Cup.
Dave Chisnall could make an impact as favourite with Peter Wright for his quarter and will be a tough player to beat with his recent good form and is one of the best players to never win a major but will it be Chizzy time come Sunday night?
Phil Taylor will be expected at 4/1 to progress in the other half which could seethe pair meet in the final. With Taylor beating MVG twice at the champions league of darts if they meet again MVG will be ready and Taylor would have played twice on the Sunday also, so the advantage leans on MVG in my opinion
