THERE'S plenty to like about todays’s card but having looked at games in every division of the English game, I just can’t help my thoughts returning to Gigg Lane.
BURY v EXETER CITY
It’s raining as ever in Lancashire but beneath those heavy clouds drifting in off the Pennines, there’s an uncharacteristic shaft of sunlight shining down on The Shakers as we head into the Christmas period.
Our form is tip-top and, whereas we have had these moments of success in seasons past, we’ve never quite done it so emphatically.
Ryan Lowe has set up a team of players that are just hell-bent on carving up the opposition half and our goal record speaks for itself; if you exclude the cup defeat to a better League One Luton side, we have hit 4-4-3-5-1-4-2-2-0-4-3 team goals in consecutive games at Gigg since the start of September – for us, that is off the scale.
Exeter had been having a pretty similar campaign but the wheels have fallen off in recent weeks with a home defeat to bottom side Macclesfield capping off a poor run – 5 draws and 1 defeat in their last 6 away days doesn’t bode well for the long-travelled fans but does offer an insight into their chances of a win against League Two’s form side.
I’m taking on 3 selections based around Bury goals, be interesting to see if Lowe starts Dom Telford but I think he may be used off the bench and both him and the more obvious Maynard are both good shouts for a goal.
