LOSING my football club has been a humbling experience and, I'm not too ashamed to say, an emotional one – Bury were a massive part of my life and between the age of 8 and 18, it's fair to say they were my life.

Of all my memories, there was nothing like the Bury/Bolton derbies in the 80s and 90s – it was nothing less than pure hatred and I can still taste the atmosphere nearly 30 years on.

I think moving away from the area has slowly diminished that inbuilt loathing for The Trotters and that combined with our own plight has made me look at things a little differently – while it kills me not to be able to look out for my team's results every week, I do look out for the fortunes of those Northwestern sides that once repelled me and say a little prayer their fans don't befall the same fate as us.

PETERBOROUGH UNITED VS. BOLTON WANDERERS (3.00pm)

Alas, the future doesn't look bright for Bolton and it's a foregone conclusion they will drop down to the 4th tier of English football after 6-month spell that has seen their own survival sit on a knife-edge.

Posh will be rubbing their hands in anticipation ahead of today's game and a solid win will set them up for a good Christmas run-in; the two teams ahead of them, Ipswich and Wycombe, go head to head on New Year's Day and so, will naturally help to close that gap further whatever the outcome!

Bolton have held bragging rights across the last two meetings but that was a different set of circumstances and the hosts will go into this one with a galvanised team against a Bolton outfit that has had to draw upon its own youth side during the current campaign.

Morning Tommy – fond memories of Oldham/Bury games also – always had a soft spot for yourselves and spent many weekends kicking a ball around when my old man was reffing the Reserve games at Boundary Park 👍

I remember THAT artificial pitch…was like green sandpaper 😂

As a Bury fan, I feel your pain HullShaker. There was never a dull moment supporting The Shakers and it feels like there’s a part of me missing, weekends have never been so boring!

I know exactly how you are feeling. Clydebank had no games for one season but we came back at the start of the following one at a lower level and hopefully Bury do the same. Game off today unfortunately.

Sad day for Bury fans mate and genuine football people like yourself Hull. Jock Stein famously quoted” Football is nothing without fans”. The modern game has become blighted by money and that quick rise to the Premiership which has killed a lot of teams off, if you check through the history of teams who made that grand entrance to the big table and a sharper exit back to reality.

Your still a football fan through and through mate and i love your knowledge and passion for the game all over the globe from Iceland to Bolivia, so please keep up the funny write ups and top tipping along with the other tipsters in this great room.

    Without you football is nothing….

Even as a Tranmere fan i didnt wish what has happened to Bury on anyone. I enjoyed our rivalries and hope we have them again sooner rather than later. Spending the last few years in the National League made me look at football differently and we were able to turn things around. Good Luck and hope Bury do the same!! Jon :)

Mr F – you are spot on, we’ll come out the other side in some way, shape or form!

Bigoldunit – jesus, two Bury fans in one place…inconceivable…wonder where the other 3 are 😂

Jointhedots – lovely post mate 👍

Jon – was never sure why or how Bury/Tranmere games were so full of bad blood but they were! Saw some crackers over the years and one of the best lower league sides of the early 90’s wss your mob with Nixon, Muir and co 😉
