IT was a day of no luck yesterday as Southampton failed to get their two goals or penalty and my “psychological turnaround” turned out to be a load of old flim-flam.
Onwards though and given the obscene amount of food I’ve shovelled down my gullet in the last few days it’s quite fitting I’ve turned my attention to the feeder leagues.
Ton Pentre v Haverford West County (7.30pm)
Welsh Division One outfit Ton Pentre may sound like a Swansea working men’s club tribute act but they are in fact a footballing side who are doing their best to chase a relegation spot – it’s not great to put it mildly and they are the division’s third-bottom team with the second-worst goal difference of -16 after just 14 games.
It’s not unusual for Ton Pentre to see plenty of goals in their games and a stonking 78% of this season’s games in all competitions have seen 3 or more match goals with a further 50% seeing 4 or more – stats consolidated further if you consider 3 of their last 5 games have seen at least 5 match goals!
Haverfordwest will be heading into this one with high hopes. They sit a comfortable second in the table and, at +24, have a goal difference that is 40 better than their opponents. They also have a recent and decent away scoring record that indicates their capacity for goals on the road having hit 3-5-1-2-1-3-3-2 in their last successive 9 away days.
Given the fact Haverfordwest games have featured 3-6-3-5-4-7-6-3-3-4-1-8-3-3-3-3-11-2 match goals since August and 5 of the last 7 H2Hs saw both on the scoresheet, I reckon there might be mileage in this one seeing a few more with the green green grass of the home side not giving much of an advantage:
