NOT a great deal to go at tonight on the surface of things and I’m swerving the obvious EPL game for a more remote destination and for me an unorthodox bet.
UTC Cajamarca v Academia Cantolao (9pm)
I always maintain if you turn over enough stones in the right places there’s always potential value to be had – I initially looked at this one for goals but for a variety of reasons left it out before looking at a different way in.
It’s rare I back the Peruvian offerings simply for the fact although they run around like mad for 90 minutes they can be pretty dull affairs and often end relatively goalless in comparison to other South American games.
However, there are always other options to goals and – like poor old Craneguy on his recent trip to Bangkok – I’ve had a few dabbles on the alternative corner market!
The average Peruvian game this season have seen 9.92 corners per game with a slight favouritism for home sides. Cajamarca have seen 10-10-8-12-12-10-7 corners in each of their last 7 successive games with a season average of 9.54 to date.
Cantolao have averaged 8.21 corners in their game and while that’s substantially fewer than the hosts it means they ought to contribute towards the target.
These figures make more sense if you consider bet365 have the corner line set at 9 and even more sense when you consider we may well see a game with plenty of offensive play but limited goals.
Hopefully I’ll be waking up with a handful of the bookies money rather than a handful of waxed scrotum and the Crying Game music playing in the background like our hero from Paisley.
Rubbish – 6 corners in the end ?
