IT was a much better day for me on Wednesday with the sensational Tiger Roll bolting up quickly followed by Band of Outlaws who was punted off the boards after I tipped him last night (purely coincidentally I'm sure!)
We move on to Day Three with a bit more confidence. My initial selections from last week provide a bit more detail so have a look at your leisure.
I now have a few extra thoughts and some additional bets to add.
1.30pm JLT Novices Chase
VINNDICATION remains my selection for this. I think he is the value bet and the blinkers will hopefully be an added bonus too.
2.10pm Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle
I'm still very strong on FIRST ASSIGNMENT who remains my first choice for the same reasons as previously stated. Hopefully Ian Williams can deliver us some magic.
Likewise THERMISTOCLES is still in the race and with the performance of Band of Outlaws today (Wednesday) we can only be confident about the form of the Joseph O'Brien horses.
2.50pm Ryanair Chase
Again, I remain convinced that ROAD TO RESPECT is the answer in this race as explained in my preview article. He is the solid reliable option here and whilst it is possible that one or two can improve past him they will need to be very good to do so. If you can get an each way price then gobble it up.
3.30pm Stayers Hurdle
Paisley Park is the rock solid favourite and I won't put anyone off him at all. I have in some multiple bets with Tiger Roll, Sir Erec and Presenting Percy and if you can get 2-1 for Paisley Park I think that's very fair.
I just have a funny feeling about the top Irish horses in races like this and for me SUPASUNDAE has done nothing wrong at all.
He looks rock solid as an each way alternative so I'll have a small each way bet on him at these prices.
4.10pm Brown Advisory and Merriebelle Stable Plate
I tipped SPIRITOFTHEGAMES the other day and he remains my top choice. There isn't much further down the betting that catches my eye other than perhaps Didero Vallis for Venetia Williams but I am quite happy with Spiritofthegames against the field.
4.50pm Mares Novice Hurdle
I have backed QUEENOHEARTS and I still think she is value at double figure odds against an unproven favourite. I'm also going to add in POSH TRISH who has drifted out slightly as I write this and she is a lovely each way bet to nothing in a race that doesn't have tons of depth to it in my view.
5.30pm Kim Muir Challenge Cup
A copy and paste job from my article earlier in the week but I can't say it enough: “I say it every year but it is so true: the jockey is crucially important in this race because they are all amateurs and with all due respect some of them truly are amateurs. The top amateurs like Jamie Codd and Derek O’Connor are as good as the professionals and are very valuable to have onside in these races”.
I tipped my old pal THE YOUNG MASTER and I stand by that but we absolutely cannot ignore the genius that is Jamie Codd.
He rides MEASUREOFMYDREAMS for Gordon Elliott and the horse apparently is flying. Add Codd into the mix with his current form and past class and we just can't let him go unbacked, regardless if he is favourite or not.
Place double both top 4 finish @paddy power.
2-50 Road to respect 4-6
3-30 Supasundae 5-4
Double Pays 3-1 Nap.
Paddy Power also have Supasundae at 10-11 top 5 finish which barring a fall looks generous given his last 13 races been grade 1 races and never out of 1st 4 !!
Played my first day on this year Cheltenham festival:
1.30 Defi Du Seuil (e/w) @ 17/5 ✅
2.50 Frodon @ 9/2 win ✅
3.30 Paisley Park @3/2 ✅
4.10 Siruh Du Lac @ 9/2 ✅
4.50 Epatante @ 15/8 lost
So looks like it has been a lucky day!
