Voice of Value Tips: Fast and Hot can warm to the task

I WAS away last weekend but I'm looking to arrive back with a bang this week on what is a relatively quiet weekend in the UK for the horses.

The Ebor Festival at York starts on Wednesday morning so stay tuned for some previews for that one.  York is my new favourite course so I might even try to get along for one of the days of the festival if possible.

I have a few from the notebook running this weekend though and there looks to be some value for us at Newbury.

1.20 Newbury

We're straight out of the stalls with the first race of the day at Newbury whilst Ed Chamberlain and co are still putting their make-up on.  FAST AND HOT is one from my notebook who was given what I think can only be described as a poor ride last time out by Tina Smith where he was sent out far too fast and didn't quite get home despite looking the best horse.  Tina gets another bite at the cherry this time and will no doubt have learned from the last race.  I reckon this is an improving horse but given the last performance he has actually gone down 1lb in the handicap.  He looks good value to me at 5-1.

3.00 Newbury

A nice competitive Class 3 race on a Saturday afternoon and a nice betting prospect given that there are 16 runners at the time of writing so we'll get 4 places at 1/4 odds if there there aren't any non-runners.  The softening ground will be no problem for NOBLE PEACE who looks well-handicapped to me and is a winner-in-waiting I reckon. He hasn't been beaten far the last three times and 7 furlongs is his ideal distance.  The each way price is not to be sniffed at and soft ground is another plus.

3.35 Newbury

I assume that the bookies think that Nathra is not the force of old (2nd in the French 1,000 Guineas) but if you look at her belated return at Ascot last time out she was eased up early by Frankie when she didn't get any luck in running and wasn't beaten as far as 6th place would suggest.  With that run under her belt I think she is way overpriced here at 8/1 given that she is 3 from 3 over 7 furlongs all of which were soft or good to soft ground.  I expect a different style of riding from Fran Berry and will be surprised if she doesn't at least make the top 3.
