ONCE again the weather is wreaking havoc with the racing card but it looks like Southwell might survive and they have managed to put together a nice card of bumpers for jumps horses to give them a run.
My bet of the day is MAGIC DANCER who lines up in the first race on the card. He is 4lb clear of Swashbuckle on official flat ratings and is even further clear of the rest.
Young Richard Patrick is a capable apprentice who takes off another 5lb and I think it should be a steering job for him.

Magic Dancer now a non runner. Alternative selection is SWASHBUCKLE in the same race (1.45 Southwell). 2 point win at 9/4. Has a good bit in hand on official ratings with the remainder of the field.
Swashbuckle wins ??
I hope a few folk managed to get on
Nice one.
I know Cheltenham can dry out quickly but with the current weather situation surely it will be no better than soft for the festival?
Have been wondering about this myself double carpet. Anyone know how much snow the course has had? Once that melts it might not dry out in time.
double carpet we were right about the idiots anyway going out in there cars and having to be rescued should have left them there, wexford town must be 5ft of snow now.i thought they had the covers down in cheltenham
Double Carpet also some idiot went out swimming yesterday i dont know how he got on
They couldn’t put covers down because they were expecting so much snow,
You can’t have covers down for too long and you can’t cover when there is too much water in the ground
The covers are only really for when frost is expected
The snow isn’t the main problem, that won’t take long to go as temperatures rise, it’s the rain that’s due next week that’s the problem,
My calculations of expected rain fall with expected temperatures with the effects of the snow means we are pretty much guaranteed for soft ground but can we trust the met office?
We have been informed that rain fall expectations could be more than expected and we could only have a three day dry spell before race day
“Yes I study everything”
An ideal situation for me is, snow till Monday then rain till Friday then our bet of soft ground is pretty much guaranteed
I usually mention this a few times a year for newcomers
If anyone has any questions about ground conditions at a racecourse then just phone the Clerk of the Course, depending on the circumstances you could get them or their secretary
The majority of people think they can’t phone but in reality everyone can phone up, that’s why the number is published,
Some people say to me “you can’t phone the Clerk of the Course up because they are probably busy”
Think like that and you are giving an advantage to the bookie, the Clerk isn’t just there to prepare the course, they are there to inform the public, if they are too busy then you will get their secretary or assistant

Mr Carpet ,if you have time your opinion would be appreciated on Mall Dini’s chances in the Kim Muir ,looked unlucky last year and looks laid out for this again ?
Duncan
I would be slightly concerned this year as he normally has a run in Feb to get him ready but has been a NR for both entries this Feb. Still, He never runs a bad race here and has to be in with a shout.
The one I have my eye on now that it doesn’t make the Ultima is THE YOUNG MASTER. He’s either too well h’capped or just not got the legs anymore.
Thanks and GL
