THE CHESTER CUP takes centre stage today and I have one that I think will go well at a big price.
I was getting a sore head last night looking through the form for the race because there are so many in with a chance but nothing that I can be totally convinced about. In those circumstances it often pays to look for the value at a big price and TIME TO STUDY could be just the fellow. His form towards the end of the season for Mark Johnston wasn’t great but I don’t think he had ideal conditions and he was carrying a fairly hefty weight around with him. The handicapper has gradually dropped him down the weights and he has switched owners and stables over the winter. He is now with Ian Williams who I think is peerless in targeting a horse for a particular race. Time to Study ran over 1m2f at Lingfield on his first run for Williams which is totally inadequate (he wants double that distance if possible) and was clearly just a warm up race for this. He wants as good a stamina test as possible which he now gets today and he doesn’t mind softer ground. He is now 8lb lower than last year where he was an unlucky 5th in this race. He has a poor draw no doubt about it out of stall 13 but Richard Kingscote rides Chester as well as any other jockey so if he can get him out sharp and into midfield he can then hunt around and hopefully pick them off near the end when he will surely be travelling better than most. 20/1 is far too big if he has indeed been targeted at the race as I suspect.
Take the 5 places on offer with some bookmakers including William Hill, Paddy Power and Betway and enjoy the race.
