Chestnut Pete put in a horrific round of jumping at Ludlow on Wednesday, and the writing was on the wall after the first fence.
Chestnut Pete was also weak in the market throughout last night and up to the off, drifting out from the advised price of 9/4 to 9/2 at one stage. When I saw the drift this morning, I have to admit I wasn't confident, but sometimes we see these drifts in the market and they mean nothing.
I am quite busy this evening, so I have done my write up for Thursday's card quite early on.
Dark Angel Star 4/1 – Chelmsford City 5.10
The 5.10 at Chelmsford looks like a wide open handicap and the current market would tell you that before even studying the race.
Although sharing favouritism at the top of the market, I thought 4/1 for Dark Angel Star was an attractive price and well worth taking on the back of her break through success last month.
My selection remains a lightly raced filly, having only had three runs in her short racing career. She has gradually progressed from her debut run at York last summer, which saw her finish fourth in a Class 3 over 6f. She appeared to be a little out-paced on debut, and connections opted to drop her back to 5f for her following outing, which saw her finish third at Beverley in a Class 5. The form of that contest reads quite well with the second winning next time out and now rated 85, while the winner also followed up to win a Class 1 Group 3 contest in her most recent outing and is now rated 98.
Dark Angel Star made it third time lucky last time out, getting off the mark at Newcastle last month and winning quite cosily by just over one length. My selection appeared to take well to the AW surface, and I think a mark of 74 could potentially underestimate her ability against this sort of field. Dark Angel remains unexposed for trainer James Tate, who at present is operating at a 33% S/R in the last 14 days, producing 6 winners from 18 runners.
