THIS Saturday sees a sensational ITV Racing card where they have no less than nine races with just the sort of quality of racing that I find ideal.
It's not a pile of group races with a small number of entries but rather we have high quality top class handicaps from both Newmarket and Ascot. Even the group races have plenty of entries and there are loads of opportunities to find one at a good price.
I run through the card on the Gambla Racing Podcast so have a listen if you haven't already. Please subscribe through whatever podcast platform that you use and you should get an alert when the podcast first goes live on a Friday evening:
1.50pm Newmarket
The win that INTO FAITH had at Longchamp in the autumn is a very good piece of form and a return to soft ground should be ideal for him today. He could potentially be great value in this.
2.05pm Ascot
I've gone for two in this race and make sure you get the extra each way places on offer. QUEEN OF SILCA is the improving horse running off bottom weight here and I don't think she is done improving yet. AL RASMAH also looks like a good each way shout in a race that isn't as hot as her last outing at Royal Ascot where she might have been closer had she not had to race on her own on the wrong section of the track. She actually rallied quite well to finish in 8th and has been dropped a pound in the handicap.
2.40pm Ascot
My preference is for DUBAI SOUQ who I think looks a better value bet against the short priced favourite. Dubai Souq looked like a right good horse when he won at Nottingham at the end of last year and I think he will improve again for another step up in trip.
3.00pm Newmarket
I'm taking a chance on VENTURA TORMENTA who won very cosily last time out with the look of a horse who can take this step up in class in his stride. He looks a pretty big price for this.
3.15pm Ascot
My pick of the week is probably LORD GLITTERS in this race who is the best rated horse in the race. He runs well fresh and Lismore than capable of taking this race despite now being a seven year old. The O'Meara yard has hit a bit of form and he looks a cracking each way price to me.
3.35pm Newmarket
HELLO YOUMZAIN will enjoy the softer ground and is in tremendous form so I would have made him close to favourite for this. I can't see him being out of the top 4 so I'm protecting my stake with an each way bet and I expect him to go very close with Golden Horde the clear main danger.
3.50pm Ascot
The drop back to 5 furlongs is what ARECIBO needs as he showed last time out with a better performance. He has twice run over the 5 furlong trip here at Ascot and twice he has finished 2nd in fields of 14 and 11. He has dropped to a very fair mark and I think he will chapping on the door again.
4.10pm Newmarket
Again there are two that I like here, both at double figure prices. TOMFRE is a course and distance winner on soft ground and was unlucky last time out. He gets a 3 year old weight allowance and looks a horse going places to me, hopefully the winners enclosure. The alternative is ARIGATO who has won his last two and continues to improve having found a new lease of life this season. He is also flexible in terms of ground and I wouldn't fancy laying him at 11-1 that's for sure.
