YOU will hopefully be hearing a bit more from me in the days and weeks to come as I look to step up my racing tips for Mr Fix It. I’ll be providing my best value bets as and when they pop up, hopefully on a daily basis.
The Gambla Racing podcasts will continue for the weekends with a focus on the live ITV racing and you can also follow me on Twitter using @thevoiceofvalue. I’ll send out a tweet to let you know when my daily tips have been posted so it always helps to turn on notifications on twitter for the heads up.
I have two tips for today (Sunday) which should be backed as each way singles and perhaps a small each way double for a bit of fun.
2.30pm Thirsk
EAST STREET REVUE is nicely handicapped on his old form as he demonstrated last time out here over five furlongs when he ran on well into 3rd. The return to six furlongs is ideal and his last win was over this course and distance (his only career run here over six furlongs) from only one pound lower in the handicap so the current prices look very fair to me. Hills are currently best price and also paying an extra place (4 places) so take advantage of that.
3.25pm Salisbury
This looks a decent Group 3 with the improving Motakhayel and Duke of Hazzard heading the betting but I think that the five year old REGAL REALITY is a solid alternative. He is the highest rated horse in the race and has been downgraded in the betting because of a fairly lacklustre performance last time out. That was a decent race though and this drop to a mile means we can be sure he will see out the trip no problem. If he can keep the pacey Motakhayel (best form over 7f) in his sights he should be able to pick him off in the run-in. He has been nibbled at in the market this morning which is also quite encouraging.
Biggest fix of a race you’ll see that 3:25 – Crowley never even hit the button on that horse who was travelling much better than anything else. Not even a whip. Complete and utter fix.
Unless the horse was eased down because of injury I have to agree.
I wouldn’t agree that it was a fix. Crowley’s horse is a 7 furlong horse who looked like he didn’t stay the extra furlong today. Pulled far too hard at the start to station the mile. The winner on the other hand stays 1m2f and finished nicely off the the strong early pace. There are corrupt and dodgy performances in racing but I would be amazed if there was anything dodgy in a Group 3 race like this with £20k to the winner. Crowley wouldn’t need the money he would make for throwing a race like that if he had a horse who could win it.
I’ll agree with you that he hardly touched the horse but as soon as he realised that it wasn’t going to stay having pulled too hard he has saved it for another day. It might also be a horse that doesn’t respond well to the whip. He will know the horse best. I’d expect to see the horse back over 7 furlongs next time out after today’s experiment failed.
No one ever questions it either, you never hear at the end of the race asking questions why the jockey hasn’t even attempted to win the race?? I’m done with racing after that race absolutely done with it.
@voiceofvalue
No one will ever know but the horse was cruising travelling into the last furlong and a half. Travelling better than anything around it, most of the others of the bridle. He may not respond to a whip but he never touched it, to say it never stayed without touching the thing for it to go up a few gears leaves you wondering what’s going on. As a punter it disgusts you seeing performances like that.
Yeah I appreciate that it doesn’t look great but if you watch the winner he is tucked in behind with plenty of cover and is travelling really nicely. I’m just saying that it wasn’t a fix. I’m actually not a big Crowley fan but there’s no way a group 3 race like that is fixed in my opinion.
I just wouldn’t want to see a racing fan decide to walk away from the sport because of that race!
