THERE'S never a dull moment in the racing world and yesterday ended in the most dramatic fashion with Auxiliary getting nabbed on the line (after trading very short odds on in running) and then Dr Duffy clipping heels and coming down when absolutely cruising through to what surely would have been an easy win.
We wish jockey Richie Deegan well after the fall: thankfully he walked to the ambulance so looks like he will be ok. I would expect Patrick Mullins to get a ban for his part in that incident but the stewards and racing authorities never cease to amaze so I wouldn’t bet on it.
Doncaster 4.05
Today I just have one selection and it comes in the ladies Pro-Am race at Doncaster (4.05pm). DOUGAN is ridden by Poppy Bridgwater who is in the sort of form I was in earlier this week – everything she touches turns to gold – having won 7 of her last 12 rides so she is very good value for the 7lb she is able to claim from some of the other jockeys here today (although admittedly there are plenty of others in the race getting useful looking claims too).
Dougan for his part is a really consistent sprinter who runs to a mark of around 90 or higher fairly regularly and in better races than this. This is his distance and a reproduction of his 2nd place finish at this course in June or his 5th last time out in the Sprint Series Finale at Windsor would be enough to see him win today.
There has been a bit of money for him since the markets opened but 8-1 is still widely available and is great each way value in a race where you are getting at least 4 places each way.
Recommended Bet:
- 4.05pm Doncaster – Dougan – 2pt e/w (8-1, Ladbrokes, Bet365, Coral)
