IT'S been a massive disappointment that all three days of the Ayr Gold Festival have been cancelled this week. A huge loss for the track and the local area too on what is one of the busiest weekends of the year.
It leaves us with decent enough cards at Newbury and Newmarket from which to find a few winners and I have three each way selections today that should be knocking on the door.
2.50 Newbury
NEBO has the benefit of Ryan Moore in the saddle today and is joint highest-rated horse in the race. That doesn't always tell you the full story of course especially with two year olds who can change so quickly from race to race but Nebo's debut win was over this course and distance which is a big bonus for me. I think he is the one in the race who is overpriced and can be backed at an each way price.
3.30 Newbury
Hugely competitive race this one and I'm hoping that Frankie Dettori can work a bit of magic on a horse I have followed for a while. AL NEKSH has threatened a couple of times in big handicaps this season and looks to me like a horse who is just waiting for everything to fall right. First time cheekpieces today could be bring out that little bit extra in him and I can see him going close.
3.10 Newmarket
WHO DARES WINS is a horse I would absolutely love to own. A cracking hurdler – third in the Coral Cup this year at Cheltenham – and also competitive on the flat, finishing 3rd in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot and 4th in the Chester Cup. This is a trial for the Cesarewitch which I'm sure is the sort of race he will be looking to compete in too but I can't see him out of the frame today. With the current prices and firms offering 5 places it's an obvious each way bet to me on a lovely consistent horse.
Recommendations:
- 2.50 Newbury – 2pt each way – Nebo at 15/2 with Bet365, William Hill and others
- 3.25 Newbury – 1pt each way – Al Neksh at 14/1 with Paddy Power (paying 5 places)
- 3.10 Newmarket – 2pt each way – Who Dares Wins at 7/1 with Betfred and Betfair (both paying 5 places)
