THURSDAY'S selection Sea Wall was soundly beaten by the favourite Moabit so it’s back to the drawing board for Friday to find some more winners.
There is some decent enough jumps action at Sandown, Leicester and Ayr and we also have all weather racing from Newcastle as well as two meetings over in Ireland.
Finnegan's Garden is now a non-runner at Leicester so I'm left with two picks.
3.40pm Sandown
At Sandown they have the extremely prestigious Grand Military Gold Cup, a race which was first run in 1841 and is exclusively for horses owned by serving or retired military personnel and also ridden by serving or retired military personnel.
It is similar to the Royal Artillery Gold Cup in that respect, a race won a few weeks ago by RATHLIN ROSE over course and distance , ridden by Captain Guy Disney who also won the 2017 runnings of this race and the Royal Artillery Gold Cup with the same horse Rathlin Rose.
What makes Captain Disney’s achievements in these races more remarkable is that he wears a prosthetic leg after suffering an injury in Helmand Province in 2009.
The horse loves this course and distance and will be trained to perfection for the race by the David Pipe team. Although the horse is favourite I have no qualms in backing it because I can see another victory in this remarkable fairytale.
4.20pm Leicester
The hunter chase at 4.20pm may seem a strange place for my next tip but I think THROTHEHATCH has a really strong chance at a good price. His past form is better than most of these and he has been ticking over in point to point races recently. A return to his old form should see him go close.
Recommended bets
- 3.40 Sandown – Rathlin Rose – 4pt win at 7-4 with Bet365, William Hill
- 4.20 Leicester – Throthehatch – 2pt e/w at 7-1 with Bet365 and BetVictor
Johnb's Friday Tips
- Leopardstown 3:30 – Drumconnor Lad 4-1 paddy power NAP
- Sandown 3:40 – Baden 11-2 betvictor NB
- Dundalk 8:00 – Lily’s Prince 5-1 paddy power
Bobbies diamond 2-50 Ayr NAP 100-30.
A silly question.
I did altior evens and native river 7-1 a few weeks ago for Cheltenham.
Sizing John was ahead of native river at the time in the betting and is now out of the race.
Do I still get my 7-1 ?.
He is 5-1 now.
I did it as a single and double non runner no bet.
It will depend on the specific bookie Elvis I think.
ELVIS.
yes you will still get the 7/1
i posted our duke for the gold cup the day he won the irish grand national at 33/1 ,he is now 7/1 and im sick as a dog i didnt back him then
Yes, Even if it ended up a two horse race you would still get your 7/1
not 100 per cent but would think so as that is the idea of ante post take the risk at the price at the time
Just read that Rule 4s can apply once it’s Nrnb so you may be unlucky, but i imagine it can only be a couple of quid at worse, ask the site.
Cheers guys.
Just wait and see aye.
Haven’t been so confident about a gold cup pick for a good while.
Strange that no horse has dominated the gold cup for ages like best mate used to.
No back to back winners since the early 2000s I think.
NAP VELVET MAKER 5/2 4.20 leic
Simply has to be the selection here. Travels over from Ireland for new stable and is rated 21lbs higher than anything else in the field.
NB FINNEGANS GARDEN 2/1
Won this last year and I’m sure will be ready for another crack today
Also backed Charles Byrne’s horse in the bumper at leop.last night as his bumper horses have been flying and a few touches have also been landed.
16s last night with pp now 12s
BOL
WAITING PATIENTLY also skips cheltenham
Good shout dc. I’ll have a look at the Byrnes horse. Good luck
WTF was that………absolute pig !!!
Onwards
Finnegan’s Garden now a non-runner. No alternative selection from me in that race so just the two selections today.
Good luck all
Sky bet boosted treble – Buveur d’Air (champion hurdle), Yanworth (stayers hurdle), and Apple’s Shakeria (triumph) all to win – 40/1
Just for fun obviously small stakes, but it should go close
Would never bet on a multiple put together by a bookmaker, especially one which is price boosted, looks worth a fiver but they aren’t dumb, yanworth can be beaten easily in a tricky race and judging by AT’s notes, apples shakira could easily be turned over too.
i agree with you database 100%
I agree and at 40-1 i am not expected a return but the price is fair. I do actually fancy Yanworth for the stayers and Buveur d’Air looks a banker. I think apples will get turned over in what is a seriously hot triumph hurdle, my pick for the race at the moment would be Farclas.
Cant do any harm putting a loose quid on at 40-1 .
One looks a banker, apples should be on the premises and yanworths connection have seen sense and reverted to hurdles so has good shout also.
Also does anyone know if I take a best odds guaranteed price for the Cheltenham festival does that include each way terms? So if I take 3 places now and they are offering more on the day will they match it?
Cheers
luckboxmason ,i dont think they will match it , im not sure on that one
Got yanworth in a multiple myself, good luck with it, cheers 3 bringing it to everyones attention either way.

7.45 new Revenge@9/1 e/w
If you have never seen a jockey ride a horse with no intention of winning watch a replay of natch in the 5-45 Newcastle.
Race run at a snail’s pace until the final 3 furlongs, 4-9 natch kept back 5 lengths off the pace then gently pushed out once the jockey realised the race was lost.
Jason weaver on atr says the horse wasn’t good enough, that maybe true, but the rubbish piece of riding made sure of that by keeping him too far behind.
As you know that’s what they call an educational ride ,stick it in your tracker GL.
