SOME unfortunate stuff for me yesterday with Coneygree going very close in a thriller and a few others not running their races at all.
Presenting Percy was particularly disappointing. Thankfully Fayonagh hosed up to give me a winner and we go back to the well again today (Thursday).
There are a few at short prices that I think have a fair chance including Cantlow (4.50pm), Great Field (6.40pm), Asthuria (7.15pm) and Next Destination (7.45pm) but I’m not going to specifically tip any of them. The more adventurous amongst you might consider doing a yankee or something similar with those four. I might even do that myself for a bit of craic with small stakes.
4.15pm
Don’t Touch It won at this meeting last year, is hugely well thought of and runs for Jessica Harrington who is in the form of her life. Likewise Tully East is in great form following Cheltenham and will no doubt run well too. The presence of those two however makes my selection POTTERS POINT a very nice price.
He is a young novice who looks like he could be top class in time and might end up making a mockery of his current handicap mark. He won his chase debut nicely and jumps out at me as the horse in the field with the most potential.
5.30pm
My old pal Snow Falcon runs again and its entirely plausible that he will get a place at a nice price again. I have to stop tipping him for win purposes though – the last two runs suggest that he just isn’t good enough to win at Grade 1 level and even though he cruises along in style he tends to find little extra for the run-in.
Nichols Canyon is the obvious one after Cheltenham but I’m not backing him at the prices on offer because he has been far from consistent over the last couple of years. Unowhatimeanharry I think was just found out at the very top level in the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham and unless the ground ends up being soft I don’t think he bounces back here.
SUTTON PLACE is the one with the most potential in the field and he could be a Gold Cup horse of the future. Unbeaten over hurdles so far and it’s interesting that they have stepped him up to 3 miles. This new trip should be ok as should the good ground (which is also a bit of an unknown) and I think he is the value bet at 5/1.
6.05pm
This is absolutely wide open but I think RATHPATRICK is a cracking price having won last time out and also over course and distance in January of last year. His sixth place at Cheltenham in the Pertemps Final last year off a higher handicap mark than this suggests he is still on a decent mark and also shows that good ground won’t be a problem. 20/1 is a nice each way price for him.
Recommendations:
- 4.15pm – Potters Point – 2 points each way at 8/1 (Skybet – paying 4 places)
- 5.30pm – Sutton Place – 3 points win at 5/1 (Paddy Power, Betfair)
- 6.05pm – Rathpatrick – 1 point each way at 20/1 (Skybet – paying 6 places)
