A LOVELY little winner for us on Saturday with Amber Gambler winning under a cracking ride from Tom O’Brien after I tipped him up at 12-1.
Miss Bar Beach was the other tip on Saturday but the late rain at Musselburgh was a disaster and she hated the ground. I’ll keep an eye on her as the season goes on though.
5.00pm Fairyhouse
Easter Monday is Irish Grand National day and I must admit that I don’t often have a strong opinion for this race. Irish handicap form confuses me more often than not but much like the Aintree version this race has attracted better and better horses in recent years and that makes it a bit easier to work out.
The good news is that I have a strong fancy this year and another one that I like at a bigger price.
The first choice is our old friend from the Cheltenham festival MALL DINI. He was unlucky losing to Missed Approach by about half a length and that pair had gone clear of the rest of the field. I have no idea how Pat Kelly has managed to get Mall Dini in here carrying 10st 4lb but that’s the situation and he looks like an absolutely stonking bet to me.
A quick mention for Bellshill who is entered at Aintree and would be 8lb better in the handicap running there rather than here. It’s unlikely that they are going for both races given there is less than two weeks between the races so I’m no clearer on why he is running here. Anyway, I’m not too keen on him at this price so I’ll pass him by.
The one that I can’t leave unbacked is SNOW FALCON. A classy staying hurdler who hasn’t hit the same heights yet over fences but as a result is nicely handicapped. Regular readers will remember that I tipped him at Cheltenham but he was declared a non-runner and presumably has been kept fresh for this. Although he is untested over this sort of trip he is a strong stayer on the flat and over hurdles and if his jumping holds up I can see him excelling here.
4.30pm Market Rasen
Elsewhere on Monday there is one from my notebook running at Market Rasen. LANDIN beat Remiluc nicely at the start of March and old Remiluc has gone on to show since then that he is in great form. Landin should be a good thing in this lower grade despite carrying top weight.
Recommended Bets:
- 4.30 Market Rasen – Landin – 4pt win at 9/4 with Bet365, Ladbrokes
- 5.00 Fairyhouse – Mall Dini – 3pt e/w at 9/1 with Betfair and Bet365 (both paying 5 places)
- 5.00 Fairyhouse – Snow Falcon – 1pt e/w at 25/1 with William Hill, Bet365, Ladbrokes (all paying 5 places)
