IT'S the third and final day of the November Meeting at Cheltenham and there is loads more top-class jumps action in store for us.
I had just the one winner yesterday (Thomas Campbell) and a place for Ballyalton so hopefully we go one better today and get two winners. I only have two bets that I fancy today and they are both in the big handicap races at nice prices.
There are quite a few short priced favourites in the shape of River Wylde (1.50), Fox Norton (2.25) and Dame De Compagnie (3.30) and while I can see them all winning they are too short to recommend a bet. River Wylde is probably the most vulnerable with North Hill Harvey a big threat but Fox Norton also has real competition, particularly with Cloudy Dream who is an exciting chase prospect for this season.
We also have Faugheen running today onnhis comeback over in Ireland so be sure to watch that and let’s hope that the machine is back to his best after injury. It’s not a race I’ll be having a bet in but definitely worth watching to see how he goes.
The two big priced horses that I fancy are as follows:
1.15
A really competitive handicap with lots of improvers on show. This is an apprentice jockey race so they are all still learning the trade. Bryony Frost is a young female jockey going places and she has been booked by Ian Williams to ride SUNNYTHALIATEIGAN. Aside from being a bit of a mouthful of a name this is a progressive horse that I am keen on. He is a lightly raced 5 year old who looks to have a race like this in him sooner rather than later and the big each way prices available are ideal.
3.00
I am wary of another Ian Williams horse in this race which is London Prize who has been in excellent form lately and might still be ahead of the handicapper whoever he is a bit too short to recommend a bet in this ultra-competitive race. Elgin is another one who is attractive given his recent form and the form of the Supreme Novices Hurdle last year which is working out really well. I wouldn’t put anyone off backing him and I might have a wee saver myself near the off but my main bet is OLD GUARD who I know one or two shrewd judges fancy today. This horse has a bit of quality having been considered as a potential outsider for the champion hurdle in 2016 following his win in this very race in 2015. He has slowly come down the weights in the handicap recently before a nice listed win last time out at Kempton. Given that he is back in form I can see him going really close here for Bryony Frost who I’m hoping has a huge day.
Recommendations:
- 1.15 – Sunnytahliateigan – 2pts e/w at 14-1 with Skybet (paying 6 places)
- 3.00 – Old Guard – 2pts e/w at 16-1 with Betfair and PaddyPower (both paying 5 places)
