You have to say that the two fillies at the top of the market in The Oaks this year look quite special.
Love won the 1000 Guineas in taking fashion, but if we're being honest, that 1000 Guineas was a poor race.
The form of the English 1000 Guineas hasn't worked out well, with Quadrilateral & Cloak Of Spirits flopping at Royal Ascot in the same race. So, though she was very impressive at Newmarket, you'd have to say she was probably flattered by the winning margins of 4.25 lengths, in what appears to be a weak Guineas. The doubt of her staying the 12f trip is a valid question.
She is by Galileo, but that doesn't instantly mean she will stay the trip, as the Dam's side suggests she might not be a stayer.
She is a half-sister to Lucky Kristale who is a Group 2 winner over 6f. She is a full sister to Flattering, who did stay 12f but wasn't exactly a top-class filly. From what we've seen so far from Love, is that she does have a lot of speed, which is why I'd side with something else, plus she is very short odds.
Frankly Darling was impressive at Newcastle and Royal Ascot, but she is a free going type, and that is not what you want when going around Epsom. It will find you out.
John Gosden has said that she can be a pain at home, and is hot-headed. If she is to win the Oaks, she needs to relax and not to fight Frankie, as she did at Ascot, where she pulled his arms out at the beginning. She beat Ennistymon that day, and she did it quite cosily, but I think the form can be flipped.
ENNISTYMON was tipped up by myself for that race, and she ran with a lot of credit.
On that day, James Doyle had her positioned miles off the pace, and when Frankly Darling went on the attack, she was too far back to do anything about it, but she ran on in eye-catching style to suggest they are on a similar level.
At the current odds, I'd 100% rather side with Ennistymon at an EW price than Frankly Darling who I do have doubts about.
Ennistymon seems more straight forward and calm, which will play to her strengths tomorrow, and if she is positioned closer to the pace, she could reverse the form with Frankly Darling, who looks the one to beat in my opinion.
