The jumps season in the UK draws to a close at Sandown Park with a mouthwatering card of jumps races on Saturday. I have three selections that catch the eye and hopefully we can close out the jumps season with a few winners.
Sandown 2.25pm
This is a fascinating race with various contenders coming up and down in trip and question marks over some on the fast ground. There are also quite a few who don't win enough races, including Black Corton and Definitly Red who are the two favourites. I doubt that Charbel will want this extra distance with his best performances coming over two miles. The one that looks good value to me is GO CONQUER who didn't want the marathon trip in the Grand National but is now back over a more suitable trip on ground that is no problem. He has looked better than ever this season and I think he will go very close here.
Sandown 3.35pm
The Bet365 Gold Cup is widely regarded as the last big jumps handicap of the season and is always a tricky race to decipher. This year it looks very likely that we'll have good ground which won't be ideal for a few of the potential contenders. One horse that will like it is my old pal THE YOUNG MASTER who won this race three years ago off a 6lb higher mark. He looked gone at the game last season but bounced back this autumn with two wins and then had an excellent third placed finish in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham. I expect him to go well again today and 10-1 seems more than fair to me.
Sandown 5.15pm
Wait for Me has been very strongly supported here and he holds a great chance but the one that looks better value to me is COMMANCHE RED trained by Chris Gordon. The horse won nicely last time on good ground and the conditions here should suit perfectly for a very lightly raced six year old who should continue to improve.
