Rosario 5/1 – Doncaster 1.30

The last four runs by Rosario have shown a consistent level of form, and since he's been banging on the door in competitive sprints like today's race, he deserves a chance.

The track will not be an issue for him as he ran a blinder to finish 3rd in the Portland behind the bottom weight, who was on a roll.

Soft ground should also not be an issue for him; he ran well last time out at Ascot on soft ground, and he finished 3rd in a Group 3 on soft ground when a two-year-old.

Look Back Smiling 12/1 – Doncaster 3.50

A horse that I have liked for a few years on soft ground is Look Back Smiling.

This horse was once rated much higher and was always competitive in big field handicaps on testing ground. It's a surprise that he hasn't won for a fair amount of time, but maybe that's because he hasn't had his ideal conditions.

He is running off a mark of 76, but also gets 5lb claimer Warren Fentiman doing the steering, which means he is running off a much reduced mark and well below his last winning mark.

His last mark came off a mark of 83 (had a 5lb claimer on board that day too) at this track on soft ground, so everything points towards a big run.

Dwindling Funds 4/1 – Doncaster 5.00

Whenever Jim Goldie gets a horse rolling, they have to be respected greatly.

This horse has already won six times this year, but he seems to get on very well on testing ground.

He has gone up 7 lbs for his latest success at Ayr on heavy ground. That run was over 7f, and was a career best performance. I think this trip suits him better on soft ground, as he has the added stamina, but also has the speed.

Onemorenomore 14/1 – Doncaster 5.30

I've been bitten far too many times getting sucked into backing horses who have won races from previous years, but I'm getting stuck back in with Onemorenomore.

This horse managed to win this race last year off a 3lb higher mark, and last time out showed a return to form, which leaves the impression he will be primed for a crack at winning this race 12 months on from winning it last year.

He doesn't win too often, but all three of his career successes have been at Doncaster racecourse, so you he is on the way to becoming a bit of a course specialist.

Philip McBride is a trainer who doesn't venture out of his southern yard all too often, so given this horse has such a good record at the track and they are happy to keep coming back, is a positive sign.
